Formula One's tyre supplier Pirelli has insisted that their tyres are safe, despite Nico Rosberg suffering a high speed blow out during testing in Bahrain. Rosberg was travelling at 320kph when he suffered a tyre failure, pitching him into a spin. 'The tyre tests in Barhain regarded a number of prototypes, which were completely innovative in terms of structure and compounds, with the aim of developing the most suitable solutions for the next season,' said Pirelli, following the conclusion of the three day test. Vettel rounds off season with ninth successive victory

Sebastian Vettel signed off his 2013 championship season in style by storming to victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix, equalling Michael Schumacher's record of 13 wins in a single Formula 1 season. Vettel lost the lead to Nico Rosberg at the start but quickly got through on his compatriot and was never troubled as forecast rain failed to materialise. Vettel's only danger came when Red Bull did not have his tyres ready at his second stop, slashing his lead from 12 to five seconds. Mark […]

Rosberg tops wet day of running in Brazil

Nico Rosberg topped second practice in Brazil after a day of wet weather at Interlagos. Rosberg's time of 1:27.306 was two tenths of a second faster than world champion Sebastian Vettel. Most times were set during the final moments of the session as drivers sought to preserve wet tyres, with further challenging conditions expected across the remainder of the weekend. The wet weather also meant that teams were unable to trial Pirelli's 2014 development tyres, which the Italian company had specifically taken to Brazil. Mark […]

Mechanical failure hinders Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton believes a mechanical failure during Q3 cost him a shot at a front row start for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Hamilton was on a hot lap when his Mercedes snapped sideways exiting turn 13 and pitched him into a spin. Hamilton had set the fourth fastest time prior to the mechanical problem. "Fourth place feels pretty good this evening considering the time was set on my first Q3 lap," he said. "Unfortunately on my second lap it looks like something gave way […]

Force India drivers Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil say that the VJM06 proved tricky to drive during practice for the Japanese Grand Prix. Di Resta was fourteenth fastest during a second practice session that included a spin under braking at the Casio triangle. "The car was quite difficult to drive today, but we’ve worked hard to try and optimise the balance," said di Resta. "After each run, we changed some things and I think we’ve learned a lot as a result. The long run […]

Massa says he spun to avoid Rosberg

Felipe Massa says that he was forced to take evasive action on the opening lap on the Korean Grand Prix, leading to him spinning at turn three. Massa started the race in sixth place and took the inside line into turn three but spun under braking and narrowly avoided team-mate Fernando Alonso. "Today’s race was really very complicated, because my chances of getting a good result evaporated right from the first lap, when I found myself in the middle of a group, all of us […]
