Rosberg tops opening session in Russia

Nico Rosberg set the fastest time during the first-ever Formula 1 practice session at the Sochi Autodrom. Rosberg’s time of 1:42.311 was 0.065s quicker than Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton as drivers received their first experience of the 5.8km semi-permanent street circuit. It was a fairly low-key session, although several drivers locked up heavily into Turn two, while Turn 13 also caught a few out. Marussia to field one car in Russia

Marussia has confirmed that it will run just a solitary car for Max Chilton in this weekend's Russian Grand Prix at Sochi. Jules Bianchi remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital following his accident in the Japanese Grand Prix and while Marussia mechanics built up a second car, it will remain on Bianchi's side of the garage in tribute. Daniil Kvyat says that this weekend's Russian Grand Prix will be a 'special' moment, although acknowledges that events at Suzuka will overshadow the inaugural race. Marussia yet to decide on Sochi running

Marussia is yet to decide whether it will field a second car at this weekend's Russian Grand Prix at Sochi. Jules Bianchi remains in a critical but stable condition in a Japanese hospital and while reserve driver Alexander Rossi has been nominated on the official entry list alongside regular racer Max Chilton, this has been done in order to comply with Formula 1 regulations. Perez labels Bianchi situation 'unacceptable'

Force India driver Sergio Perez has labelled the accident which befell Jules Bianchi as 'unacceptable', following the Frenchman's crash at the Japanese Grand Prix. Bianchi was left with a diffuse axonal injury after he struck a recovery vehicle which was tending to the stricken Sauber of Adrian Sutil. Perez says that Formula 1 drivers must talk with the sport's governing body and understand how lessons can be learned. Kobayashi keeps Caterham seat for Sochi

Caterham has confirmed that Kamui Kobayashi will again race for the team at this weekend's inaugural Russian Grand Prix. Kobayashi's future has been unclear since the team was sold mid-season and his position at the squad has been confirmed on a race-by-race basis. The Japanese driver will again line-up alongside Marcus Ericsson, with Spaniard Roberto Merhi set to take part in the opening practice session on Friday in place of Kobayashi.

Sirotkin gets Sochi practice outing

Sergey Sirotkin will make his Formula 1 practice debut when he gets behind the wheel of the Sauber C33 at next month's Russian Grand Prix. Sirotkin demonstrated a Sauber C31 at the venue last year before getting a full day of testing in the C33 in Bahrain in April. Sirotkin had been set to race for Sauber this season but the Swiss team opted to retain Esteban Gutierrez. Sebastian Vettel has become the first Formula 1 driver to complete a lap of the Sochi Autodrom, which will host October's Russian Grand Prix. Gutierrez completes Sauber 2014 line-up

Mexican Esteban Gutierrez will race with Swiss-based Sauber for a second season next year with Russian teenager Sergey Sirotkin signed as test driver, the Formula One team announced on Saturday. Gutierrez will partner experienced German driver Adrian Sutil, who has moved from Force India to replace Nico Hulkenberg in a direct switch with his compatriot.
