Singapore GP recap

Under the white-hot spotlights of the Marina Bay Street Circuit there were no big stage nerves for Lewis Hamilton, as the Mercedes driver delivered another pitch-perfect performance to extend his championship lead over arch-rival Sebastian Vettel. This time it was the German’s Ferrari team that fluffed its lines, as Formula 1’s Managing Director, Motorsport Ross Brawn reveals, but while the battle for the lead was settled early on there was plenty of action to enjoy further down the order. Maximum Mercedes What an amazing weekend for Lewis Hamilton. On Saturday, an […]

Singapore GP in numbers

It might have been a perfect race for the championship leader but for once it was surprisingly free of major Lewis landmarks. Instead, it was left to others to bring up some noteworthy stats, including a Singapore first for Max Verstappen, a career first for Kevin Magnussen and a fine final Marina Bay race for Fernando Alonso. 6 podium finishes for Max Verstappen this season so far. The Dutchman finished third in Spain, Canada and Belgium, second in France and Singapore and won in Austria. Yesterday’s second place […]

Ferrari finished on the starting positions

The Singapore race ran true to form, in that in the Monaco of the East, anything can happen, but usually nothing does. Sebastian Vettel made it to the podium in third spot and Kimi Raikkonen was fifth, meaning Scuderia Ferrari finished where it started. At the start, Vettel attacked Verstappen, right with him after the first corner and then getting past at the gentle curve of Turn 6, just before the yellow lights came on, because Esteban Ocon was in the wall. Raikkonen meanwhile had […]

Double points finish for Renault

Renault Sport Formula One Team recorded its sixth double-points finish of the season after Carlos Sainz’s eighth place and Nico Hülkenberg’s tenth place finish in the Singapore Grand Prix at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Both drivers made clean starts with Sainz passing Hulkenberg into turn one then holding that position in the early running. Sainz enjoyed a quiet race from there, running a long first stint on the Ultrasoft tyre, before comfortably finishing in eighth for the second time in as many races. After […]

Hamilton wins at Marina Bay

Lewis Hamilton won the Singapore Grand Prix from the pole to earn his 69th career Formula One victory, his series-leading seventh this season and his second in a row. Hamilton beat Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by 8.961 seconds to take his fourth victory at Marina Bay, equaling the record of Singapore Grand Prix wins held by Scuderia Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton’s win, combined with Vettel’s third-place finish, allowed Hamilton to extend his lead in the championship standings to 40 points over Vettel, his closest pursuer. […]

Rosberg hangs on for Singapore victory

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg held off a charging Daniel Ricciardo in an enthralling climax to win the Singapore Grand Prix and regain the championship lead. Rosberg crucially retained his lead at the start and was on course for a comfortable victory, despite persistent brake issues, before Red Bull rolled the dice by bringing Ricciardo in for a fresh set of supersofts in the closing stages. The Aussie then proceeded to slash Rosberg's comfortable advantage but agonisingly missed out, finishing just four tenths adrift. Victory for […]

Hamilton targets better race results

Lewis Hamilton will line up on the second row of the grid for Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix after struggling to find the right rhythm in his Mercedes to secure his fourth pole position at this track. The Briton hasn’t been totally comfortable with the car so far this weekend and has therefore managed to set only the third fastest time during today’s qualifying session.  “It's not been my weekend so far. I've not got many good laps out there. Not for any particular reason. I […]

Rosberg takes pole ahead of Ricciardo

Nico Rosberg's title bid received a fresh boost as the German put in a sensational lap to secure a crucial pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix as Daniel Ricciardo managed to split the Mercedes. Rosberg put in a superb 1:42.584 on his first run in Q3 to ultimately take pole by half a second ahead of Red Bull's Ricciardo, who promoted himself to P2 with a mighty final sector right at the death. After a scruffy pair of practice sessions, Lewis Hamilton was unable […]

Rosberg pips Verstappen in final practice

Nico Rosberg set the pace once again in the third and final practice session ahead of the Singapore GP, but Red Bull's Max Verstappen was within touching distance as Lewis Hamilton's scrappy weekend continued. Rosberg clocked a 1:44.352 on the ultrasoft rubber to finish quickest, but Verstappen was only six hundredths adrift with a very impressive lap, and one which suggests Mercedes may have a fight on their hands in qualifying. Kimi Raikkonen was half a second off Rosberg's benchmark in third, while Daniel Ricciardo […]

Grosjean disappointed by 'worst Friday'

A mechanical issue in the first practice session and a crash during the second one left Romain Grosjean with only 12 laps completed in today’s preparation for the Singapore Grand Prix. Grosjean’s desire for a strong start to the race weekend was squashed almost immediately when in the first practice sessions his car developed problems on its installation lap. The technical issues led to a 25-minute stint in the garage, and when trouble continued on a second installation lap, the team decided to end his run […]
