Dennis: McLaren will help outgoing Magnussen

McLaren CEO Ron Dennis says the squad will assist outgoing reserve driver Kevin Magnussen in enjoying a Formula 1 career after confirming that the Dane will not be part of the team's plans into 2016. Magnussen was demoted to a reserve role with McLaren for 2015, having raced for them last year, and the outfit recently confirmed that Jenson Button will remain alongside Fernando Alonso into 2016. Magnussen has repeatedly expressed his desire to return to a race seat for 2016 and Dennis says that […]

Dennis sure Alonso will recover for Melbourne

McLaren CEO Ron Dennis says he is sure that Fernando Alonso will be fit in time for the opening round of the 2015 season in Australia. Alonso spent three nights in hospital following a crash at last week's test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and has now returned home to recover. The Spaniard will miss this week's group tests and will be replaced by Kevin Magnussen. "I can't foresee any reason why not," Dennis said when asked if Alonso will be fit for next month's […]

Prodromou created McLaren 'masterpiece'

Going extreme with the new MP4-30 is a "calculated risk", McLaren supremo Ron Dennis has revealed. Although it has struggled to run amid early troubles with new works engine partner Honda, the British team's 2015 car has been hailed by management as the first 'size-zero' F1 car. McLaren is referring to the tight integration of the chassis with the compact Honda V6 unit, and Dennis credits pulling if off to the team's high-profile signing of Peter Prodromou, a former Adrian Newey deputy at Red Bull. […]

Dennis sure McLaren has best line-up

McLaren boss Ron Dennis is sure that his team will have the best driver line-up of any team on the grid next season. McLaren has recruited Fernando Alonso to partner Jenson Button in 2015 and Dennis believes that his driver pairing will trump any of McLaren's rivals. "McLaren’s policy has always been to assemble the strongest line-up possible, and in Fernando and Jenson I firmly believe that is exactly what we have," he said. "Fernando and Jenson have started a combined total of precisely 500 […]

F1 teams admit concerns over ticket prices

F1 team bosses have identified high ticket prices as a major problem for the sport, according to the Telegraph. The British newspaper said crowd numbers at some of the sport's most traditional venues including Spa, Hockenheim and Monza have been notably down in 2014. The sport has struggled for traction this year as some fans bemoan the loss of the screaming V8 engine note and the increasing complexity of the technology and rules. At the same time, F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone is notoriously tough in […]

Future 'good' after long Dennis talks admits Button

The signs are growing stronger that Jenson Button will secure at least one more year at McLaren. The British team's quest for a star champion like Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton or Fernando Alonso to spearhead the new Honda era beginning in 2015 has been an open paddock secret. But the latest reports suggest McLaren-Honda may now instead try to impress with a solid first season next year and try again to lure a top name for 2016. McLaren protege and rookie Kevin Magnussen appears almost […]

Dennis tells Button to 'try harder'

As speculation swirls around the future of F1's most experienced active driver, McLaren supremo Ron Dennis has called on Jenson Button to up his game. At the end of his fifteenth consecutive season on the grid, 34-year-old Briton Button's current McLaren contract is up. Despite speculative links between the Woking based team and Button's fellow champions like Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and even Lewis Hamilton, Dennis insisted in Austria that McLaren is "not looking to finalise our driver lineup now". He did, however, admit that […]

Dennis wants Alonso to lead McLaren's Honda charge

Former McLaren and Ferrari driver Alain Prost has some advice for those beleaguered F1 teams -- "do something different". "If you compare them to Red Bull and Mercedes, you see that Ferrari and McLaren have only continued to work in the same way as they always did," the quadruple world champion is quoted by Spain's Marca newspaper. "Sometimes you have to stop, make a plan and start again. Sometimes you have to do something different," Prost added. The F1 legend believes Ferrari's problems can be […]

Dennis: McLaren must win in 2014

McLaren CEO Ron Dennis has emphasised that his outfit must return to the top step of the podium in 2014. McLaren has not won a race since Jenson Button's victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix in 2012 but Dennis insists that his squad can win races later this season. "I think we could win races in the later part of the season," he told the Official F1 website. "I want to see a linear progression because we must end the season winning. This has to […]

Dennis critical of Vettel comments

McLaren boss Ron Dennis has criticised comments made by reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel. Vettel described the new sound of Formula 1 as 'shit' ahead of last weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix, a comment which was not well received by FIA president Jean Todt. Dennis also expressed disappointment at Vettel's comments prior to Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix. "Being a World Champion requires a dignified approach to everything, so putting aside the language, even the sentiment is inappropriate," Dennis told Sky Sports. "The simple fact is if […]

McLaren set for title sponsor

McLaren CEO Ron Dennis says that his team will feature a title sponsor in the coming weeks. McLaren has been without a title sponsor since the departure of Vodafone at the end of 2013 and the team had hoped to announce a new one in December last year. Those plans did not come to fruition but Dennis is confident that McLaren will soon have a title sponsor, albeit not in time for next weekend's season-opening race. McLaren endured a difficult season in 2013 as the […]

Dennis appointed CEO of McLaren Group

Former McLaren Formula 1 team principal Ron Dennis has been appointed CEO of McLaren Group with immediate effect, in place of Martin Whitmarsh. Dennis will return to the position he held between 1982 and 2012 and also retains his role as chairman of McLaren Group. Dennis was McLaren's team principal in Formula 1 between 1982 and 2009. "My fellow shareholders have mandated me to write an exciting new chapter in the story of McLaren, beginning by improving our on-track and off-track performance," he said. "Over […]
