Manor reflects on 'sobering' double DNF

Manor team boss Dave Ryan says the squad's display at the British Grand Prix was "sobering" as both Pascal Wehrlein and Rio Haryanto spun off in tricky conditions. Manor scored its first point since its rebranding in Austria as Wehrlein placed 10th but at Silverstone the youngster spun off at Abbey and beached his MRT05 in the gravel. Wehrlein was joined on the sidelines by team-mate Haryanto, who also erred at the corner later in the race, and was unable to continue. "A rather sobering […]

Palmer, Haryanto, Nasr penalised; Hulkenberg cleared

Renault's Jolyon Palmer, Manor's Rio Haryanto and Sauber's Felipe Nasr have all been handed grid penalties for the Austrian Grand Prix after failing to slow sufficiently for yellow flags in Q1. The trio were deemed to have now slowed sufficiently when the yellow flags were displayed after Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz Jr. suffered an engine failure during the closing moments of the session. All handed three-place penalties, meaning Palmer drops from 18th to 20th, Haryanto from 19th to 21st while Nasr stays at the back. […]

Ericsson, Manors reprimanded for practice incidents

Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson and both Manor drivers have been reprimanded following incidents in the first practice session for the Austrian Grand Prix. Ericsson was deemed to have crossed the white line while entering the pits though claimed he was affected by the turbulent air from Daniel Ricciardo’s Red Bull. A representative from Red Bull confirmed that this was likely but stewards concluded that Ericsson should have been aware of Ricciardo’s presence. Pascal Wehrlein was sanctioned after he did not stay above the minimum time during […]

Haryanto still unclear over F1 future

Rio Haryanto believes conversations between his management and Manor are "going really well," but admits he cannot be assured of his future beyond the summer break. Haryanto made his Formula 1 debut at the start of the 2016 season courtesy of financial backing from Indonesia's government and state-owned oil company Pertamina. However, Haryanto's seat is not guaranteed until the end of the campaign and he is unsure whether he will be able to complete the full season alongside Mercedes youngster Pascal Wehrlein. "I still don’t […]

Wehrlein rues floor damage, tyre wear

Pascal Wehrlein says damage to the floor of his Manor MRT05 affected his performance at the Canadian Grand Prix, as he finished the race in 17th place. Wehrlein picked up damage to the floor of his car on the grid but was still able to battle Renault's Jolyon Palmer and both Sauber drivers across the first stint of the race. Wehrlein, however, once again struggled with tyre wear during the closing stages and slipped behind Marcus Ericsson, eventually coming home in 17th spot. "I got […]

Manor drivers rue 'tough', 'difficult' Monaco

Manor drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Rio Haryanto were left to rue a "tough" Monaco Grand Prix as the pair came home as the last classified runners. Wehrlein originally placed 13th but was demoted behind Haas' Romain Grosjean after he received two 10-second time penalties. Wehrlein was deemed to have transgressed during the Virtual Safety Car period and then ignored blue flags, the sanctions demoting him to 14th spot. "It was quite tough to be honest," said Wehrlein of his first Monaco Grand Prix. "Early on […]

Haryanto rues lack of long run data

Rio Haryanto was left to rue a lack of long run data after he crashed out of Thursday's second practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix. Haryanto was on a flying lap on Ultra Soft tyres when he lost control approaching the Nouvelle Chicane and spun into the outside barriers, before coming to a halt in the run-off. Haryanto was unable to complete the remainder of the session and will thus head into Saturday's final practice with limited data in terms of long run pace. […]

Haryanto uncertain over finishing season

Rio Haryanto admits he is unsure whether he will be able to finish his rookie season with Manor as his management continues to chase funds. Haryanto joined Manor at the start of the year but he admitted that, while having initially been given assurances over completing the entirety of 2016, the future is less clear. "To be honest I don’t know and I hope that I can be here for the full season," he said when asked about speculation over his future. "There are some […]

Trio left to rue Turn 2 collision

Esteban Gutierrez, Nico Hulkenberg and Rio Haryanto were left to lament a collision on the first lap which left the latter pair eliminated from the Russian Grand Prix. Gutierrez hit the back of Hulkenberg under braking at Turn 2, resulting in the Force India driver spinning into the path of the helpless Rio Haryanto. Hulkenberg and Haryanto were eliminated on the spot, while Gutierrez was penalised for the incident and eventually trailed home in 17th place. "I arrived at the first corner with a lot […]

Ryan encouraged by Haryanto progress

Manor's Racing Director Dave Ryan says he is encouraged by the progress made by rookie Rio Haryanto across the course of pre-season testing in Spain. Haryanto has stepped up to Formula 1 after spending four years in the GP2 Series, but suffered off-track excursions across the first week of testing, which partially impacted his programme. Haryanto completed two largely error-free days during the second test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and Ryan is upbeat over the Indonesian's trajectory. "We ran through a bit of everything […]

Haryanto was 'on limit' before crash

Manor driver Rio Haryanto says he was pushing to the limit when he crashed out of the final day of the first test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Haryanto had racked up a century of laps when he erred at Turn 4 and slid backwards into the gravel, with the rear of his Manor MRT05 making contact with the barriers on the outside of the corner. The crash truncated Haryanto's running an hour and a half into the afternoon session and he ended the day […]

Haryanto accepts blame for testing spin

Manor debutant Rio Haryanto accepted the blame for a spin which disrupted his running during the third day of testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Haryanto, piloting the Manor MRT05 for the first time, spun on the approach to Turn 5, leaving his car stranded in the gravel trap. Haryanto was able to return to the circuit and he rounded out the runners, having completed 78 laps, and said the experience felt different to his days racing in GP2. "I made a small mistake and […]
