Webber excluded from qualifying, starts last

Mark Webber has been excluded from the qualifying results for the Chinese Grand Prix. Webber stopped on track during Q2, with Red Bull citing a fuel pressure problem as the cause of his stoppage. The Red Bull driver had originally set the fourteenth quickest time in the session but must now start from the back of the twenty two car grid. A technical error meant that insufficient fuel was delivered to Webber's RB9 during Q2. Webber's car had just 150ml of fuel remaining, rather than […]

"The work we did with the F138 over the winter has taken us in the right direction and the car has much more potential. Of course, […]

Coletti takes pole for GP2 opener

Rapax's Stefano Coletti has taken the early lead in the GP2 championship after setting the fastest time in qualifying in Malaysia. Coletti's time edged out James Calado by 0.004s, with the same difference separating Calado from Felipe Nasr in third place. Fabio Leimer was fourth, ahead of top rookie Mitch Evans in fifth place. The main talking point from the thirty minute session revolved around an incident between Sam Bird and Johnny Cecotto. Bird held Cecotto up through the fast Turn 6, for which he […]

Massa to fight for 2014 Ferrari seat

Relieved to have rescued his career from the brink in the second half of last season, Felipe Massa has admitted he does not know if he can also keep his Ferrari seat for 2014. "I don't know what will happen," the 31-year-old, who will begin his eighth consecutive season with the fabled Maranello marque this weekend, told Speed Week. Albeit with an uncompetitive Ferrari, Massa had a dire start to the 2012 season, and many now see the forthcoming campaign as yet another final chance […]

Australia podium sufficient as Ferrari target long game

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domencali insists that a podium in next weekend's Australian Grand Prix would provide a good platform on which to mount a season-long title challenge. Ferrari's recent record at Albert Park has been poor, with just one podium - Felipe Massa in 2010 - to show from the previous five races in Australia. "I expect that the teams who finished in the top positions in Sao Paulo [2012] will repeat that in Melbourne, probably with a reduced advantage – that’s what we […]

Salo tips Raikkonen to fight for Melbourne pole

Kimi Raikkonen has been tipped to fight for pole in Australia next month, and the world championship in 2013. "I am quite sure Kimi will fight for the championship," fellow Finn Mika Salo, now a commentator for the MTV3 broadcaster, said. After two seasons in rallying, 2007 world champion Raikkonen returned to Formula One with Lotus last year, finishing the championship third and winning in Abu Dhabi. "Last year he was not able to consistently show good results all of the time, and the team […]

New Ferrari not quickest in field says Domenicali

Stefano Domenicali has admitted Ferrari will probably not field the fastest car at the 2013 season opener next month. Indeed, based on the results of the opening two tests of the pre-season, most rivals and pundits think world champion Red Bull is still in the lead. Veteran correspondent Roger Benoit, of the Swiss newspaper Blick, ranks Lotus second in his early 2013 pecking order, followed by McLaren and then last year's runner-up Ferrari. "The target is to be close together with the leading cars," Maranello […]

Gutierrez: Lotus to fight Red Bull for title

After spending some time from an elevated trackside vantage point in Barcelona last week, Esteban Gutierrez has tipped Red Bull and Lotus to fight for the 2013 title. "I was out on track and had a look at a couple of the corners," the rookie Sauber racer is quoted by Germany's Auto Motor und Sport. "I was surprised by how different the cars are. I think Red Bull is in a very good position, which can be seen easily from the outside. "The Red Bull […]
