Sutil: Switch to Sauber a 'refreshing change'

Adrian Sutil says that switching to Sauber is a 'refreshing change' after almost eight years with Force India. Sutil joined Force India under a previous guise, Midland, in 2006 and graduated to a race seat when Spyker took over the team in 2007. The German remained with the squad when it developed into Force India and only missed out on a race seat in 2012. "It's a refreshing change. I had a good time with Force India for many years," he said at AUTOSPORT International […]

Gutierrez completes Sauber 2014 line-up

Mexican Esteban Gutierrez will race with Swiss-based Sauber for a second season next year with Russian teenager Sergey Sirotkin signed as test driver, the Formula One team announced on Saturday. Gutierrez will partner experienced German driver Adrian Sutil, who has moved from Force India to replace Nico Hulkenberg in a direct switch with his compatriot. Sauber also announced the continuation of their sponsorship agreement with Mexican telephone company Telmex, who have backed the racing careers of both Gutierrez and compatriot Sergio Perez. Telmex will remain […]

Hulkenberg not fussed about Force India team-mate

Nico Hulkenberg says he is not fussed about the identity of his team-mate next season. Hulkenberg will race for Force India in 2014, but the Silverstone based team has yet to announce who will line up alongside the German. Paul di Resta, who has raced for the team since 2011, is unlikely to be retained, while Adrian Sutil's position with Force India is also in doubt. Outgoing McLaren driver Sergio Perez is the favourite for the vacant seat, but Hulkenberg insists that it is not […]

Kovalainen responds to Briatore criticism

Heikki Kovalainen has responded to his former manager Flavio Briatore, after the Italian claimed Lotus should not have signed him. Drafted in to replace the injured Kimi Raikkonen for the last two races of 2013, fellow Finn Kovalainen initially impressed in Austin last weekend but finished the US grand prix a disappointing 15th. Briatore, Kovalainen's former manager and Renault team boss, reportedly observed that Lotus clearly got its choice wrong, and should have promoted reserve driver Davide Valsecchi instead. "The US grand prix showed that […]

Pic uncertain of F1 future with Caterham

Charles Pic has conceded that his Formula 1 future remains unclear, ahead of the final race of 2013 in Brazil this weekend. Pic joined Caterham for 2013 as part of a 'multi-year deal' but the Frenchman has yet to be confirmed for next season by the team. It is understood that Pic is in competition with team-mate Giedo van der Garde and Lotus substitute and Caterham reserve driver Heikki Kovalainen for the two vacant seats. "For next year, I think the logical thing for me […]

Valsecchi angered by Lotus decision

Davide Valsecchi says he is angry at Lotus's decision to overlook him for the vacant seat for the final two round of 2013. Kimi Raikkonen withdrew from the races in America and Brazil to undergo back surgery, but Lotus opted to hire Heikki Kovalainen rather than reserve driver Valsecchi. Valsecchi, the 2012 GP2 champion, believes it's a 'tragedy' that he was not selected. "It’s a huge blow to me. From the sporting point of view it’s a tragedy," he said. "It makes me angry to […]

Whitmarsh thanks Perez after exit, confirms Button

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh has thanked Sergio Perez for his contribution to the team, after the Mexican confirmed that he would be leaving the squad at the end of 2013. Perez joined McLaren from Sauber at the start of the year but released a statement on Wednesday confirming his departure from the team. Whitmarsh also confirmed that a deal with Jenson Button has been completed. "First of all, we would like to thank Checo for his kind and gracious statement, and for being a […]

Sergio Perez confirms departure from McLaren

Sergio Perez has confirmed that he will leave McLaren at the end of 2013, just 12 months after signing for the team. Perez, 23, joined McLaren from Sauber in place of Lewis Hamilton and is currently 12th in the championship with 35 points. It is expected that McLaren will replace Perez with Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion Kevin Magnussen. "I would like to thank McLaren for giving me the opportunity to be with them this season," Perez said in a statement posted on his website. […]

McLaren 'lacked organisation and humility' says Perez

Sergio Perez's marriage to McLaren seems definitely over, as the Mexican criticised the great British team at the tail end of its disappointing 2013 season. Multiple authoritative sources are reporting that the Woking based team has decided to replace Perez after just a single season with its development rookie Kevin Magnussen. It is unlikely McLaren will make the news official before this weekend's US grand prix, as the Austin circuit is just 250 miles from Mexico, making it Perez's de-facto 'home' race. But Perez this […]

Massa can reinvigorate Williams, but don't expect miracles

So what do you make of Felipe Massa? Is he a driver who has been spectacularly unspectacular since his horrendous injury four years ago, or is he a driver who was simply unfortunate to be up against one of the greatest drivers in history performing during his prime? The truth, as ever in Formula 1, is somewhere in the middle. Massa was never the most consistent driver, but between the middle of 2006 and 2009, he was one of the top performers on the grid. […]

Raikkonen excluded from qualifying results

Kimi Raikkonen has been excluded from qualifying after his Lotus E21 failed post-qualifying checks at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Raikkonen had qualified in fifth place but his exclusion means that he will start from the back of the grid. 'After the qualifying practice session an assymetric LHS front floor deflection test was carried on car numbers seven [Raikkonen] and eleven [Nico Hulkenberg],' read the stewards report. 'Car number seven did not comply with article 3.17.5 of the 2013 FIA Formula One technical regulations as […]
