Formula 1 has changed its numbering system for the first time since 1996. Here's a look at the numbers for 2014... The announcement towards the end of 2013 that drivers would select
Marussia has confirmed that Max Chilton will continue to race for the team in 2014. Chilton made his Formula 1 debut for Marussia in 2013, and finished all 19 races with a best result of 14th place in Monaco. Chilton will continue to race alongside Jules Bianchi, who also made his Formula 1 debut for Marussia in 2013. "I am really happy to be continuing with the Marussia into a second season," 22-year-old Chilton said after the announcement was made at Autosport International in Birmingham. […]
Formula One's decision to award double points at the last race of the season could be scrapped after next year's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, if not before, according to Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo. The Italian told reporters attending a Christmas lunch at the Fiorano test track that he was no fan of the controversial rule change that has got fans up in arms and been branded 'absurd' by Red Bull's world champion Sebastian Vettel. "I am not enthusiastic about it, because for me it […]
Former Formula 1 driver Eddie Irvine has criticised the sport following the decision to award double points for the final round of the season. Under the new sporting regulations, the final round of the season will count for double points, meaning that 50 points will be awarded to the winner of next year's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, rather than the usual 25. Irvine raced for Jordan, Ferrari and Jaguar in a career spanning a decade, finishing as runner-up to Mika Hakkinen in 1999. "I think […]
With every Formula 1 season comes a barrage of statistics and records – positive and negative – broken by a new wave of drivers. The 64th iteration of the championship was no different... Sebastian Vettel’s success in 2013 means that he has now won the title in more than half of the seasons he has entered in the sport. Vettel’s ninth successive victory draws him level with Alberto Ascari, with the German retaining the opportunity to hit double figures in Australia next March. Vettel matched […]
2013 world champion Sebastian Vettel remains undefeated since the summer break as he stormed to his ninth successive victory, ahead of outgoing Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso. Heading into the winter break with some scope for optimism is always an important asset in Formula 1. The first test of 2014 at Jerez begins in a little over two months and every single team is determined to get it right; fail and the consequences could be felt for more than just the […]
World champion Sebastian Vettel has downplayed his record ninth successive Formula 1 victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Vettel's achievement matches that of double champion Alberto Ascari, who won nine straight races in 1951 and 1952, although the Italian did not enter the Indianapolis 500, which was then part of the championship. "I don’t want to compare the record what we have got today; it’s not fair as it was a different time when Ascari was driving," said Vettel. "Cars broke down more often then […]
Sebastian Vettel signed off his 2013 championship season in style by storming to victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix, equalling Michael Schumacher's record of 13 wins in a single Formula 1 season. Vettel lost the lead to Nico Rosberg at the start but quickly got through on his compatriot and was never troubled as forecast rain failed to materialise. Vettel's only danger came when Red Bull did not have his tyres ready at his second stop, slashing his lead from 12 to five seconds. Mark […]
Sebastian Vettel secured his record breaking eighth successive victory after strolling to the win at the United States Grand Prix. Vettel led from start to finish to beat Romain Grosjean and Mark Webber, claiming his 12th victory of the season. Grosjean got ahead of Webber at the start and was able to defend against the Australian for the rest of the race, equalling the best result of his Formula 1 career. Lewis Hamilton jumped up to third place at the start but was quickly usurped […]
Sebastian Vettel is single-handedly better than Mercedes' entire driver lineup. That is the provocative claim of Red Bull's always blunt and outspoken Dr Helmut Marko, as Austin polesitter Vettel prepares to break another record on Sunday. Another win on Sunday would be the dominant German's eighth on the trot, breaking the old record set by his countryman Michael Schumacher. Still, many do not give new quadruple world champion Vettel the credit that Marko believes he deserves. "I always hear Mercedes say they have the best […]
Sebastian Vettel leads every lap at the Yas Marina Circuit to record his seventh successive victory and eleventh of 2013, ahead of Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber and Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg. Formula 1 has held less interesting races, but it's fair to say that the 2013 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix won’t go down in the history books as a classic. Sebastian Vettel stormed off into the distance to secure his seventh successive victory – and 11th of 2013 – and behind him the action […]
Sebastian Vettel controls the Korean Grand Prix to record his eighth win of the season, ahead of the Lotus drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean in a race featuring close battles and bizarre moments. To borrow a much maligned football analogy, it would be fair to say that the Korean Grand Prix was a race of two halves. Sebastian Vettel pulled out a gap and was in control of proceedings during the first half. But while that was also the case in the second half, […]
