Qatar's Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) says the country is edging closer to hosting a Formula 1 race in the near future. Qatar has held a MotoGP race since 2004 and earlier this year plans regarding a Formula 1 race in the nation were made public. QMMF President Nasser bin Khalifa Al Attiyah says that only final details need to be agreed with Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone. Abu Dhabi has now officially thrown its name into the hat as a potential pre-season testing venue for next season. We reported last month that venues in Bahrain and Qatar have applied to host F1 next winter, as teams look to the Middle East for better testing weather than wet and cold Spain. Marc Gene does Ferrari demo run for 20,000 crowd in Qatar

A crowd of 20,000 watched Marc Gené do a demonstration run in an F2008 on the Doha corniche this afternoon. The event, organised by Shell in collaboration with the Qatar Motor Show, which gets underway for the second time on Monday, was a thrilling spectacle: seeing a Formula 1 car rocket at over 300 km/h down a three kilometre course set up as a temporary venue along the Qatar capital’s sea front drew an enthusiastic response from the spectators, as did the pit stops, run […]

The first Ferrari Formula 1 car to hit the track in 2012 will be the F2008, with which the Scuderia took the last of its sixteen Constructors’ titles to date. It’s nothing to worry about, not some sort of surprise test, but in fact a debut appearance for the Reds in Qatar. Driving the Maranello car along the seafront of the capital Doha will be Marc Gene. The event is one of several being staged as a prelude to the Qatar Motor Show and is […]

Initial reports say the contract expired at the end of December and was not renewed, despite Williams requesting a new three-year deal for $15 million. Until 2011, AT&T - title sponsor since 2007 […]

Inoue is apparently still well connected in formula one circles, given his efforts to advance the careers of several rising Japanese drivers.
