Formula 1 will return to Austria and head to Russia in 2014. But for New Jersey, the situation is somewhat cloudier. A new season is slowly creeping over the horizon, with Formula 1’s workforce frantically preparing the new breed of machines that will hit the track in Jerez in three weeks’ time. There will be conflicting fortunes: someone has to finish top of the class and another will end up with the wooden spoon. But for now, there is some anxious work ongoing. It’s a […]
Niki Lauda says Mercedes is on track for the start of official 2014 testing, despite the huge challenge of the all-new turbo rules. Germany's Auto Motor und Sport reports rumours that world champion team Red Bull's boss Christian Horner had floated the idea of delaying for a week the start of winter testing late this month. "Nothing is being moved," Mercedes team chairman Lauda insisted. "The plans are going ahead for late January. "The task of big for everybody." The report said the German squad […]

Force India co-owner Vijay Mallya has dismissed speculation that new signing Sergio Perez is a pay driver. Perez will race for the Silverstone based team into 2014 after being axed by McLaren after a solitary season, but Mallya has rejected suggestions that he signed the Mexican due to his backing. "Mexico, Latin America - that part of the world was totally closed for us: we don’t do business in that part of the world, we had no connection to that part of the world. It’s […]
Jean-Eric Vergne says that the 'big disappointment' at missing out on a Red Bull seat has led him to become a better driver. Mark Webber's retirement from Formula 1 opened up a seat with the world champions, but Red Bull opted to promote Vergne's Toro Rosso team-mate, Daniel Ricciardo. Vergne will continue with Toro Rosso in 2014 and believes that trying to understand Red Bull's decision has improved him as a driver. "It was a disappointment of course not to go to Red Bull. As […]
Force India driver Sergio Perez says he is in favour of the FIA's plans to introduce double points for the season finale from next season. The sport's governing body announced earlier this week that drivers will receive double points in Abu Dhabi next year. World champion Sebastian Vettel called the rule 'absurd' while Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo labelled it 'bizarre'. But Perez says the change will make the end of the year exciting. "I'm in favour, I think it will make things really exciting," […]
Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel has hit out at new regulations that mean the final round of the season will carry double weight. Under proposals announced on Monday, the final round of the Formula 1 season will feature double points, meaning that the winner of next year's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will claim 50 points, rather than the customary 25. But Vettel is against such plans, drawing comparisons to the final day of the football season being awarded double points. "Imagine, on the last Bundesliga […]

Monisha Kaltenborn has admitted she recently met with Vitaly Petrov. It emerged on Thursday that Russian Petrov, reportedly with EUR 30 million in Gazprom sponsorship in his pocket, could return to F1 next year in the place of Sauber's intended 2014 race driver Sergey Sirotkin. Team boss Kaltenborn told the Russian website f1news.ru: "We saw Vitaly in Sochi (for a F1 demonstration) in September and, as we know, we talked. "No more than that," she insisted. However, Sauber's rhetoric about Sirotkin appears to have changed. […]
The championship has been over for a few months but this weekend, the party for Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel will begin. A fifth place finish is all Vettel needs to wrap up the title and that’s assuming nearest rival Fernando Alonso wins the race. If the Spaniard is second, Vettel will need just eighth place to secure the crown. If Alonso is third or lower, Vettel wins the title. The omens for the German are good: he has never been beaten in India, he […]
