Ecclestone confirms Michelin eyeing F1 return

Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed reports from Spa-Francorchamps this week that Michelin wants to return to Formula One. "They do want to get back in," the F1 chief executive is quoted by Auto Motor und Sport, "but we have had contracts with Pirelli for some time." Ecclestone is referring to commercial arrangements that have already been made with the sport's existing supplier. But there is no such contract between Pirelli and F1's governing FIA beyond 2013. That has ramped up the pressure on the already-frustrated Italian […]

Hamilton savouring final McLaren race

Lewis Hamilton has said that he is savouring every moment of his final event with McLaren. Hamilton will move to Mercedes after six seasons in Formula One with the Woking based team. Sauber came tantalisingly close to a major sponsorship deal with UBS, the Zurich based global financial services company. It emerged recently that, before deciding to sponsor the entire sport last year, UBS chief executive Oswald Grubel wanted instead to link the brand with an individual team. Blick claims that team was Hinwil based Sauber, and the newspaper has now published three 'secret' photographs to prove it. The newspaper said Grubel is friends with the similarly-aged team owner Peter Sauber, and that the sponsor tie-up came […]

Red Bull's Monza-spec floor 'hole' legal

Red Bull's 2011 car was perfectly legal at Monza despite some suggestions to the contrary. That is the finding of a Spanish sports daily in the wake of rumours after the Italian grand prix that the underside of the RB7 seemed to be hiding a suspicious secret. When Mark Webber's crashed car was removed from the circuit, photographs and videos of the highly-secreted floor were leaked onto the internet amid suggestions a 'hole' could reignite a double diffuser-type debate. But a report in Spain's Marca […]
