Rally made Raikkonen better F1 driver says Solberg

Kimi Raikkonen's rallying foray made him a better Formula One driver. That is the claim of 2003 world rally champion Petter Solberg, who got to know the 'iceman' during his two-year F1 sabbatical in 2010 and 2011. Finn Raikkonen returned to F1 with Lotus last season, impressing the grand prix world yet again after his career had flat-lined in his final two years at Ferrari. "I know Kimi and I believe that the rally made him a better Formula One driver," Solberg told the Norwegian […]

Ford's technical director Christian Loriaux was quoted on Saturday by the French-language L'Avenir as saying works drivers Petter Solberg and Jari-Matti Latvala tested over four days at the asphalt Circuit des Ecuyers. Also in action was a "mystery driver who does not want to give publicity to this collaboration", Loriaux reportedly said. The mystery driver, according to Ford's Loriaux, is a "guy with some experience on asphalt, and I take off my hat to him: […]

Latvala ahead in Sweden

Jari Matti Latvala powered ahead on the opening day of Rally Sweden after a commanding performance in the afternoon bunch of stages. Latvala had been embroiled in a close fight all day with ex team-mate Mikko Hirvonen although the former dealt with high tyre wear better than his rivals to move seventeen seconds clear with just a superspecial stage left remaining today. Behind the two Finns are two Norwegians, Petter Solberg and Mads Ostberg. Solberg has closed to within 3 seconds of Hirvonen and will look […]

Loeb still ahead in Monte Carlo

Sebastien Loeb continues to lead the Monte Carlo Rally after a third day of action, the quietest day of the rally so far. The rally now moves from Valence in Southern France to Monte Carlo, where the bulk of the remaining stages take place. With Loeb driving conservatively, it allowed new team mate Mikko Hirvonen to set a few fastest times. The Finn, who had been struggling, relished the conditions on SS12 and SS13 to close the gap to Petter Solberg. Dani Sordo holds second […]

Loeb continues to dominate in Monte Carlo

Sebastien Loeb's domination of the opening round of the WRC season in Monte Carlo continued on day two of the rally. Loeb now leads by 97 seconds after winning all but one of today's stages. The only stage not won by the world champion was SS8, when Dani Sordo trumped his former team mate by 0.2s. The most exciting battle is for second place, between Mini's Dani Sordo and Ford's Petter Solberg, as the duo continue to swap places on a regular basis. Dry conditions […]

How Kimi spent his time away from F1 – Part 2

All throughout 2010 Kimi Raikkonen was a silly season by himself. The rumours about what he would do in 2011 started even before he stepped into his Red Bull-sponsored Citroen C4 for the first time in January 2010. The main question was whether he was going to return to F1 or not, but the Iceman would never give a clear answer. He was linked to the Red Bull F1 team and later on with Renault, yes, the same team he is going to drive for […]

Raikkonen: F1 or WRC?

(By Mar Garcia) During the last few weeks, the rumours about a possible return of Kimi Räikkönen to F1 have intensified and almost all the F1 pundits have delighted us with their opinion about it. Some of them think that would be good news, some of them not. Some of them think it could be a successful move for the “Iceman”, some of them don’t. Oh well… But Räikkönen is a rally driver, at least at the moment. Why not speculate a bit about this […]
