Lotus anticipating Canada struggle

Lotus is braced for a struggle at this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix as the team does not expect the characteristics of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to suit the E22. Lotus has endured a troublesome start to the 2014 season, with a pair of eighth places from Romain Grosjean in Spain and Monaco the only points scored so far this year. "It’s probably going to be a bit of a tricky one," technical director Nick Chester said of the upcoming event. "On the one hand we’re […]

Grosjean: E22 is getting there

Romain Grosjean believes that Lotus is making progress with their E22, ahead of this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix. Grosjean has yet to finish in the points so far in 2014 but was running in the top 10 until a gearbox problem truncated his race in China. "On paper we made a big relative improvement in China but it wasn’t just one thing," he said. "We took the Renault updates and our own updates as well and moved forward. Chester adamant E22 has potential

Lotus technical director Nick Chester insists that the E22 has 'tremendous potential' and was encouraged by the team's pace during last weekend's Bahrain Grand Prix. Lotus has yet to score a point in 2014 but Chester believes that his outfit is rapidly closing the gap to the midfield runners. "The E22 has tremendous potential even if we are only gradually unlocking it," he said. "In the Bahrain Grand Prix we were closer to Mercedes, Williams and McLaren than we have been previously. Our race-pace gap […]

Chester wary Lotus facing tough few races

Lotus technical director Nick Chester has admitted that the team might not be competitive until the Spanish Grand Prix. Lotus drivers Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado failed to finish at last weekend's Australian Grand Prix and Chester has conceded that the team faces making only 'small steps' before the sport reconvenes in Europe. "It is difficult to make a strong prediction after the weekend we have just had in Australia, especially with the limited mileage under our belt," said Chester. "I’m certainly hoping for an […]

Lotus: Renault has made progress

Lotus technical director Nick Chester has insisted that engine suppliers Renault has made progress. Lotus endured a woeful practice day for the Australian Grand Prix as Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado completed just 14 laps between them across the two sessions. Both drivers missed an entire session, while Grosjean's E22 snapped sideways under braking for turn six and he hit the wall. "We experienced quite a few issues today," said Chester. "We were delayed getting Romain’s car out in the first session due to a […]
