Button admits to Hockenheim 'struggle'

McLaren's Jenson Button has admitted that he has been struggling with the balance of his MP4-29 at Hockenheim. The Brit was eliminated during the second knockout session for the German Grand Prix and will line up from 11th on the grid. "This hasn’t been an easy weekend for me, which is a shame because I really like it around here," he said. "I’ve been struggling with the car’s balance. "In qualifying, I encountered traffic on my first run in Q2, and that cost me the […]

Magnussen enthused by McLaren updates

Kevin Magnussen expressed his satisfaction at the upgrades which McLaren has brought to the German Grand Prix after he set the fifth fastest time during practice at Hockenheim. Magnussen was trialling a new front wing as part of an update package which is being used at this weekend's event, having originally been planned for next weekend's race in Hungary. "I can’t really explain the relatively close gap to the cars at the front, but everybody is running different programmes on different fuel-loads," he said. "The […]

Realistic Button 'will give 100 per cent'

Jenson Button says he will give 100% as he pushes for a podium finish at the British Grand Prix. Button was third quickest during a damp qualifying session at Silverstone, collecting his best result on a Saturday since Brazil in 2012. "I know it's only a third in qualifying, but for us in the last 18 months we've had no chance of getting this result," he admitted. "It's nice in front of my home crowd. All through qualifying the pace was there, not compared to […]

Magnussen feels he extracted maximum

Kevin Magnussen believes that he extracted the maximum possible from the McLaren MP4-29 upon Formula 1's return to Austria. Magnussen raced inside the top 10 through and finished in seventh after losing out to Sergio Perez during the final few laps. "I really thought we were going to finish sixth today, but Checo [Perez] just had too much pace at the end of the race," he said. "That wasn’t great, but it’s positive that we’re making improvements. We’ve made progress this weekend, but we still […]

McLaren duo anticipating tyre battle

McLaren duo Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen believe that tyres will be the crucial factor during Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix. Button was eighth quickest in qualifying at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and is hoping that predicted hot temperatures will play into McLaren's hands. "It’s going to be such a difficult afternoon for everyone which is great, we’re not in a position that we’re happy with so hot temperatures could mix it up, maybe starting outside the top 10 is a good thing, maybe it’s not," […]

Magnussen aiming for trouble free weekend

Kevin Magnussen is targeting a trouble-free weekend in Canada after being beset by a number of issues across recent events. The Danish driver encountered technical problems which left him in the midfield in Spain, while a power unit issue plus a late race collision with Kimi Raikkonen dropped him down to 10th in Monaco, having run inside the top six for much of the race. "The track looks like a lot of fun; it’s got a good blend of corners, and it’s the kind of […]

Button fears tough, processional race

Jenson Button says that the Monaco Grand Prix could be a processional affair due to the hard nature of the tyres. The Brit was knocked out of Q2 during qualifying and will start from 12th on the grid. "On the first lap of my final run in Q2, I came across one of the Toro Rossos at the Swimming Pool," he said. "I don’t think he initially saw me, then he tried to back out of the corner, but there wasn’t enough room for two […]

Button: Progress, not result, will make McLaren happy

Jenson Button says that the progress made by McLaren, rather than their race result, will determine whether they regard this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix as a positive event. Button arrives in Monaco having not scored in three successive races and admits that, while the team is not in a fantastic place, he is confident that progress will soon be made. "We’re not in a fantastic place right now in terms of speed and finishing positions – I was asked what I’d be happy with here […]

Button sure of better showing in Monaco

Jenson Button is sure that McLaren will fare better in Monaco as they arrive at the circuit on the back of a string of disappointing races. Button finished the season-opening race in third place but McLaren has failed to score a single point since March due to reliability issues and a lack of downforce. But the Brit, who won in Monaco five years ago, believes that the layout of track should play to the characteristics of the MP4-29. "More than any other 2014 race, I […]

Vandoorne hails maiden Formula 1 test

Stoffel Vandoorne expressed his elation after conducting his maiden Formula 1 test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. The GP2 race winner completed 136 laps of the track on Wednesday in the McLaren MP4-29 and set the ninth fastest time. The running was sufficient to allow the Belgian to collect his Formula 1 super license. "This has been a fantastic day for me: my first experience in a Formula 1 car, and a really great opportunity to get plenty of laps under my belt," […]

Magnussen hopeful of better fortunes

McLaren driver Kevin Magnussen is hopeful of an improved showing at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix. Magnussen finished in second place on his debut in Australia but has since had a more difficult time and failed to score points in Bahrain and China. The Dane now returns to the venue where he clinched the Formula Renault 3.5 Championship at the end of 2013. "As a team, we’ve had a difficult couple of races, so I think we all head to Spain hopeful of better fortunes," […]

McLaren must unlock MP4-29 potential - Button

Jenson Button says that McLaren must unlock the potential of their MP4-29 if they are to move forwards upon Formula 1's return to Europe. Button finished the season opening Australian Grand Prix in third place but failed to score a point in either Bahrain or China as the team slipped back through the pecking order. "[The return to Europe] always signals a bit of a fresh start to the season, and it’ll be an important one for us," he said ahead of this weekend's Spanish […]
