Mercedes targeting zero-defect reliability

The 2012 season has so far been a mixture of elation and misery for the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 team, after they stormed to their first victory at the Chinese Grand Prix since 1955, yet they have also been plagued with reliability issues. Michael Schumacher has been hit the most with these issues, and has retired due to gearbox, fuel pressure and hydraulics related issues throughout 2012. The 7-time World Champion has only managed to score two World Championship points so far, whereas his […]

Marko hints Webber staying at Red Bull

Mark Webber appears headed for a new Red Bull contract. The Australian, who signed only a one-year deal prior to the 2012 season, has been linked with a move to Ferrari. "That's the way it is with them (Red Bull)," he told Brazil's O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper. "All I can say is that I have started the last few years without a job for the next championship." When asked specifically if the Ferrari rumours are true, the 35-year-old told O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper […]

Schumacher's bad run mere 'fate' says Brawn

Michael Schumacher's run of terrible luck is raising questions about equality within the Mercedes team. His 2012 title hopes already effectively over due to a spate of incidents and technical problems, the seven time world champion once again failed to finish on Sunday when his DRS rear wing stuck open in Canada. "It's hard to understand why the problems affect only one driver," former Force India racer Adrian Sutil said on German television Sky. "If you compare his points with Nico (Rosberg)'s, the difference is […]

Red Bull wants Canada to complete perfect record

Red Bull sees this weekend's Canadian grand prix as a chance to set its almost perfect record straight. Of the 20 circuits on the 2012 calendar, the energy drink owned team has won at all of them with the exception of newcomer Austin -- and Montreal. Sebastian Vettel came close a year ago, succumbing to Jenson Button's challenge only on the very last lap. "I led every lap until part of the last one," the reigning world champion ruefully recalled. Team boss Christian Horner told […]

Alonso: win changes nothing

Fernando Alonso has insisted that his remarkable Malaysian Grand Prix win changes nothing when it comes to Ferrari’s place in Formula One pecking order and that the team has a lot of work ahead if it is to be competitive this season. “I think it changes nothing, to be honest,” said Alonso of his 28th career win, achieved from eighth on the grid and in chaotic conditions. “We are in a position that we don’t want, to be fighting to go into Q3 and then […]

Raikkonen's managers taking a back seat

Kimi Raikkonen's managers have revealed they only now take a back seat in the career of the 2007 world champion. Britons David and Steve Robertson have guided the famous Finn throughout his motor racing career. But Steve told Finland's Turun Sanomat that they only intervene now when the 32-year-old driver requests it -- such as when he needed to negotiate last winter with Williams and his ultimate 2012 employer, Lotus. "We came to the end of the road really in late 2009," he said. That […]

Red Bull to discuss Webber's future in the summer

Mark Webber is yet to secure his place at Red Bull for the 2013 season. Team boss Christian Horner said the Australian has a "spring in his step" after a strong winter following Sebastian Vettel's dominance last year. But as for the future, he said that will only be discussed "in the summer". "We've extended his contract on a year by year basis, I think that's something that Mark and the team agreed was the right way forward," Horner told Sky Sports. "His motivation is […]

Raikkonen needs top eight car to stay with Lotus in 2013

Kimi Raikkonen's contract for 2013 is dependent on him finishing in the top eight of the driver's championship this year, according to a report from Autosport. It was announced by Lotus that Raikkonen had signed a two-year contract with the team but it is rumoured that he will be free to leave the team after the 2012 season if the car is not up to scratch. However, a top eight finish for Raikkonen in the driver's championship should not be too difficult of a task, […]

Raikkonen delivers big motivational boost to team

Since his arrival in Enstone, Kimi Raikkonen has been gradually winning over his team and giving them the motivational boost that was sorely missed after Robert Kubica's tragic rallying accident prior to the start of the 2011 season. "After the frustrations of 2011 and the loss of the model that we had built around Robert, the arrival of Kimi has been the secret to the galvanisation of the team. It has been a big boost," said Lotus team principal Eric Boullier, in an interview with […]

Button: Raikkonen quick despite low fuel

Official testing action for the 2012 season burst into life in Jerez on Tuesday, with every team except Marussia - and nine all-new cars in action for the first time - kicking off their campaigns. Returning 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen was fastest all day. "The lap times don't matter today," Lotus' Finn insisted. "I do have a good feeling, and that was not always the case in my career after the first day of testing," he told Germany's Auto Motor und Sport. "But I […]

Q&A with Bruno Senna

Q: Now you’ve been confirmed as a Williams driver, what are your thoughts heading into 2012? BS: I’m really happy to be a part of a team with such a fantastic heritage. I am very proud that Williams has chosen me to race in what will be an important year for them. Everyone is extremely motivated for 2012 and it is great to be part of that motivation. It is true that they didn’t have the best season last year, but it is clear that […]
