Hamilton cruises to 50th F1 victory

Lewis Hamilton kept his slim title hopes alive as he ended a five-race drought with victory in the US Grand Prix, with team-mate and championship leader Nico Rosberg finishing second. Hamilton held off Rosberg and Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo on the ascent to Turn 1, and his feathers were unruffled thereafter, eventually coming home 4.5 seconds clear of his title rival as he coasted to the chequered flag. The win was Hamilton's fifth on US soil, and fourth in Austin, equalling Michael Schumacher's record, though […]

Hamilton beats Rosberg to Austin pole

Lewis Hamilton got the better of Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg to take a morale-boosting pole position for the United States Grand Prix in Texas. Hamilton clocked a 1:34.999 on his final run in Q3 to out-pace championship leader Rosberg by two tenths of a second, but the Englishman knows a good start is essential if he is to kick-start a monumental fightback in the remaining races. Red Bull were unable to challenge Mercedes despite their encouraging practice pace, with Daniel Ricciardo six tenths adrift of […]

It was an inspired performance from Kimi Raikkonen to take third on the grid behind the Silver Arrows, just three tenths adrift, […]

Mercedes set the pace on Friday sessions

Nico Rosberg topped both practice sessions at Suzuka on Friday with Lewis Hamilton coming second on both occasions. Mercedes drivers ran the hard and the soft compound tyres in the morning session. Rosberg ran the medium and the soft tyre in the afternoon, whilst Hamilton ran the hard and the soft tyre. “It’s been a case of finding my way today. It began with quite a lot of under-steer and we had to work through the setup in order to find a better balance on […]

2016 Japanese Grand PrixView

Formula 1 travels from Malaysia to Japan this week to one of the legendary circuits on the calendar that will host the 17th round of the championship. Drivers will take the challenge of an old-school track that is fast, technical, difficult but really fun to drive. With a top speed of almost 340kph, Suzuka records one of the highest speeds seen in the second part of the season. As demanding and unforgiving as it is, it brings plenty satisfaction to the drivers when they manage […]

2016 Malaysian Grand PrixView

The paddock turns its sights to Sepang International Circuit this weekend, the purpose-built Formula 1 racetrack outside Malaysia’s capital city of Kuala Lumpur. After fifteen editions held in spring, the Malaysian Grand Prix returns to its original October spot on the calendar, same as on its debut in 1999. This first part of a double-header with Japan next week will be held on one of the most technical circuits, that combines long straights with tight and complex corners. Sepang has often been the scene of on-track […]

Rosberg hangs on for Singapore victory

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg held off a charging Daniel Ricciardo in an enthralling climax to win the Singapore Grand Prix and regain the championship lead. Rosberg crucially retained his lead at the start and was on course for a comfortable victory, despite persistent brake issues, before Red Bull rolled the dice by bringing Ricciardo in for a fresh set of supersofts in the closing stages. The Aussie then proceeded to slash Rosberg's comfortable advantage but agonisingly missed out, finishing just four tenths adrift. Victory for […]

Hamilton targets better race results

Lewis Hamilton will line up on the second row of the grid for Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix after struggling to find the right rhythm in his Mercedes to secure his fourth pole position at this track. The Briton hasn’t been totally comfortable with the car so far this weekend and has therefore managed to set only the third fastest time during today’s qualifying session.  “It's not been my weekend so far. I've not got many good laps out there. Not for any particular reason. I […]

Rosberg pips Verstappen in final practice

Nico Rosberg set the pace once again in the third and final practice session ahead of the Singapore GP, but Red Bull's Max Verstappen was within touching distance as Lewis Hamilton's scrappy weekend continued. Rosberg clocked a 1:44.352 on the ultrasoft rubber to finish quickest, but Verstappen was only six hundredths adrift with a very impressive lap, and one which suggests Mercedes may have a fight on their hands in qualifying. Kimi Raikkonen was half a second off Rosberg's benchmark in third, while Daniel Ricciardo […]
