Rosberg hangs on for Singapore victory

Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg held off a charging Daniel Ricciardo in an enthralling climax to win the Singapore Grand Prix and regain the championship lead. Rosberg crucially retained his lead at the start and was on course for a comfortable victory, despite persistent brake issues, before Red Bull rolled the dice by bringing Ricciardo in for a fresh set of supersofts in the closing stages. The Aussie then proceeded to slash Rosberg's comfortable advantage but agonisingly missed out, finishing just four tenths adrift. Victory for […]

Rosberg pips Verstappen in final practice

Nico Rosberg set the pace once again in the third and final practice session ahead of the Singapore GP, but Red Bull's Max Verstappen was within touching distance as Lewis Hamilton's scrappy weekend continued. Rosberg clocked a 1:44.352 on the ultrasoft rubber to finish quickest, but Verstappen was only six hundredths adrift with a very impressive lap, and one which suggests Mercedes may have a fight on their hands in qualifying. Kimi Raikkonen was half a second off Rosberg's benchmark in third, while Daniel Ricciardo […]

Grosjean disappointed by 'worst Friday'

A mechanical issue in the first practice session and a crash during the second one left Romain Grosjean with only 12 laps completed in today’s preparation for the Singapore Grand Prix. Grosjean’s desire for a strong start to the race weekend was squashed almost immediately when in the first practice sessions his car developed problems on its installation lap. The technical issues led to a 25-minute stint in the garage, and when trouble continued on a second installation lap, the team decided to end his run […]

Wiring loom failure caused Rosberg's retirement

Mercedes has confirmed that a steering wheel wiring loom failure was the cause of Nico Rosberg's retirement from the Singapore Grand Prix. Rosberg was set to start from the front row of the grid but the problem manifested itself as Rosberg left the Mercedes garage prior to the start of the race. Mercedes mechanics tried to repair the problem, but the German had to start from the pit lane after he was unable to control the clutch or the gears. The problems remained and Rosberg […]

Vergne elated after matching best result

Jean-Eric Vergne expressed his elation after matching his best Formula 1 result with a storming drive in the Singapore Grand Prix. Despite starting from 12th and copping two time penalties, Vergne recovered to finish in sixth place after a sequence of overtaking moves during the closing stages of the race. Vergne consequently matched his result from last year's Canadian Grand Prix as he bids to remain on the Formula 1 grid in 2015. "It feels great," he said. "It was a fantastic race and I'm […]

'Impossible' to achieve good results, says Gutierrez

A frustrated Esteban Gutierrez says it is 'almost impossible' for Sauber to achieve good results as the team endured another dismal day in the Singapore Grand Prix. Gutierrez ran strongly early on but had to retire due to an electrical problem, while a water leak led to team-mate Adrian Sutil failing to last the distance. "There is not much to say about the race," said Gutierrez. "At the moment it is almost impossible to achieve good results. We have to extract 120 percent from what […]

Massa relieved to hang on to fifth

Felipe Massa says he was relieved to hold on to fifth position at the end of the Singapore Grand Prix. Massa fended off rivals on the first lap and ran in fifth place, but was surprised to have to complete a lengthy final stint on Prime tyres. "[It was] definitely a great race," he told Sky Sports. [It was] difficult to do a better result for us on this track than what I did. Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes were quicker than us. "[The] team […]
