Raikkonen to get first taste of 2014 Ferrari

Kimi Raikkonen, not the Ferrari incumbent Fernando Alonso, will get the first on-track taste of the Italian team's 2014 car. That is the claim of Italian media sources including La Gazzetta dello Sport, reporting that Finn Raikkonen will debut the new red single seater on the first two test days at Jerez in late January. Spaniard Alonso, who until now has been regarded as Ferrari's clear 'number 1' driver, will make his debut in the 2014 car later in the same test, completing the four-day […]

Vettel 'can live' with booing

Sebastian Vettel insists he is not taking the recent booing personally. At Spa, Monza and most recently Singapore, and also in Britain for June's British grand prix, the reigning world champion was the obvious target of the spectators' verbal disapproval. But the Red Bull driver told Germany's Sport Bild he is not taking it personally. "If the sport is your passion and you have a favourite driver, it's obvious you support them," German Vettel, 26, said. "So that means you're against his opponents. I can […]

Flavio Briatore insists Fernando Alonso will not be worried if Kimi Raikkonen is signed by Ferrari for 2014. "We will take a decision in the next days, and we haven't taken any kind of a decision yet," he said on Saturday. Undoubtedly, the frontrunners to be Spaniard Alonso's teammate next […]

Force India also owes Hulkenberg money

According to Blick newspaper, Sauber is not the only Formula One team that owes Nico Hulkenberg money. Veteran correspondent Roger Benoit told the German he has heard that Force India, his 2012 employer, also failed to pay him his full dues last year. Hulkenberg smiled as he replied: "Is that even a question? "As far as numbers or salaries go, I cannot say anything. There are contracts." Benoit added that Hulkenberg then "laughed and said nothing" when it was suggested he might be able to […]

Alonso targets podium after improved qualifying

An upbeat Fernando Alonso reckons he can challenge for the podium places in Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix. Alonso set the fifth fastest time in Hungary and was pleased after difficult Saturdays in Britain and Germany. "This fifth place is good news after a couple of difficult weekends in Silverstone and the Nürburgring and especially after seeing things improve compared to yesterday, when our race pace left us with even more doubts," he said. "Today, we were more competitive thanks to a change of set-up and […]

Raikkonen: Overall package will sway decision

Kimi Raikkonen says there is not one specific aspect that will sway his decision regarding his Formula 1 future. Raikkonen has raced for Lotus since the start of 2012 but has been heavily linked with the vacant seat at Red Bull. "It’s a combination of things and it has to be right on racing and outside of racing," Raikkonen said about his decision. "Basically everything just has to feel right and I think in the end it comes down to whatever I think is the […]

Mercedes using infrared camera to monitor tyres

Mercedes is the author of the latest F1 innovation, according to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport. Suffering in recent years with a lack of in-season development, and recently grappling with excessive tyre wear, the report said the Brackley based team has come up with a cunning trick in 2013. It is a thermal infrared camera, mounted backwards on the front wing of the W04 cars raced this season by Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. The mini camera streams data to engineers about the live performance […]

Raikkonen: Contract decision not easy

Kimi Raikkonen admits making a decision about his future will not be an easy choice. The Finn has raced for Lotus since the start of 2012 but Mark Webber's retirement from the sport has raised speculation that Raikkonen will race alongside Sebastian Vettel at Red Bull. But Raikkonen denies that any decision is straightforward. "Whatever the decision, it will not be easy, but it is never easy," he said. "It is not the first time that there are different options on the table, and then […]
