Exhaust problem truncates Vergne's race

Jean-Eric Vergne was forced to retire from the Spanish Grand Prix after an exhaust problem manifested itself in his Toro Rosso. Vergne started from 21st on the grid as a result of a loose wheel penalty but failed to make the distance after the exhaust issue. The retirement was Vergne's third from five races this season. "Somebody has asked me if I feel a bit persecuted by bad luck at the moment," he said. "It might look like this, but this is part of the […]

Vergne, Perez critical of tyre performance

Jean-Eric Vergne and Sergio Perez have criticised the performance of the tyres at this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix. Tyre supplier Pirelli has brought the two hardest compounds to deal with the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, but both Vergne and Perez believe that the drivers need more grip. "I think it is pretty poor," Vergne said when asked about tyre performance. "You look at the GP2 times – I was talking earlier with Jules [Bianchi] and he would have been sixth in GP2 qualifying…come on." Vergne emphasised […]

The French racer nonetheless says that he and Toro Rosso must believe that the results will arrive. "I think it is really good, it sounds weird but we need to keep the momentum," he said of Toro Rosso's 2014 season. "The work we’ve done is much better than last year, my job was better than last year. Everything is going in […]

Jean-Eric Vergne cut a frustrated figure after his second successive retirement at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Vergne made contact with one of the Lotus drivers at the start and had to retire due to the damage sustained to his Toro Rosso. Vergne disappointed by Q2 exit

Kvyat more confident ahead of Malaysia

Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat says that ninth place on his Formula 1 debut in Australia has given him more confidence for this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix. Kvyat took advantage of wet conditions during qualifying to progress through to the top 10 shootout in his first event and remained in the mix for points throughout the race. The Russian eventually finished in tenth place but was promoted to ninth following Daniel Ricciardo's exclusion. Kvyat believes past experience at the Sepang circuit will help his cause […]

Braking issues hampering Vergne

Jean-Eric Vergne says that the brake-by-wire system is hampering Toro Rosso's progress at the Australian Grand Prix. Vergne and team-mate Daniil Kvyat completed more laps than any other driver pairing but Vergne was struggling with the new system and had several off-track excursions. The Frenchman set the 11th quickest time in second practice. "Sometimes you've got this massive recharging at the rear, which recharges too much, so you have locking at the rear," Vergne told Autosport. "Sometimes it doesn't want to recharge and the brake […]

Vergne: Toro Rosso facing major problems

Jean-Eric Vergne has admitted that Toro Rosso is facing major problems after the second pre-season test in Bahrain. "There’s no point in making negative comments, because everyone knows we are facing major problems and we are not alone in that," he said. "We knew when we came to Bahrain that there had not been enough time since the previous test to have solved all […]
