Schumacher to demonstrate W02 at Nordschleife

Seven times Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher will drive Mercedes's 2011 car around the Nurburgring Nordschleife on May 19th. Schumacher retired from the sport at the end of 2012 but has taken up an ambassadorial role with the company. The German's run will take place during the build up to this season's Nurburgring 24 hours race. "I have a lot of fond memories of the Nurburgring and am really looking forward to giving fans and friends from my home town of Kerpen, which is […]

Massa wins record for longest Ferrari drought

Felipe Massa is enduring the longest victory drought in the history of all Ferrari drivers, according to an analysis by Italy's Autosprint. Dating back to his title-losing win in Brazil 2008, Melbourne last Sunday marked 68 consecutive races in which the Brazilian has entered a grand prix but failed to triumph. Massa therefore takes the unenviable record from Jean Alesi, who failed to win a grand prix for the fabled Maranello marque between his Ferrari debut in 1991 until Montreal 1995 (67 races). 31-year-old Massa, […]

Sutil hopes Mercedes helps for Force India seat

Fernando Alonso was Thursday's fastest in Barcelona, but he was giving little away to the media. Livio Oricchio, the correspondent for Brazilian newspaper O Estado de S.Paulo, said the fact Ferrari is shielding the drivers from the press this winter is "angering" those in the media centre. At any rate, the so-billed 'shootout' between Adrian Sutil and Jules Bianchi for the last seat on the 2013 grid is attracting more attention anyway. Frenchman Bianchi is scheduled to drive the new Force India on Friday, but […]

Webber to give 2013 Red Bull track debut

Mark Webber will give Red Bull's 2013 car, the RB9, its track debut at Jerez early next month. Although his teammate Sebastian Vettel has won the past three drivers' titles for the Austrian team, it will be Australian Webber first at the wheel as the 2013 pre-season begins in southern Spain on February 5 and 6. Brazil's Totalrace added that German Vettel will drive on day three. Webber, 36, also debuted Red Bull's championship winning 2012 car. "I think - especially in the race - […]

Raikkonen to complete comeback with perfect record

Kimi Raikkonen looks set to be the first driver since Nick Heidfeld in 2008 (BMW) to finish every race in a complete Formula One season. The Finn's rare feat, delivering him an almost certain third in the drivers' points standings, has coincided with his return to the sport with Lotus after a two-year rallying hiatus. "Our record shows that the team can build a reliable car and that I know how to drive it," said Raikkonen. Meanwhile, the former McLaren and Ferrari driver gave the […]

Heidfeld not giving up on F1 career

Nick Heidfeld insists he has not yet called time on his Formula One career. Never a race winner, the now 35-year-old was a highly respected F1 regular dating back to 2000, scoring 13 podiums and driving for teams including Williams, Sauber and - as recently as 2011 - Renault (now Lotus). But his latest foray is endurance sports car racing, giving the impression that German Heidfeld has acknowledged his F1 career is over. "You'd think that, but it's not the case," he insisted on Monday […]

Where are they now?

"Those were the days, my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way" Those were the words of Mary Hopkin back in the 1960s and several of last year's Formula One drivers will most likely be reminiscing after their time in the elite division of motor-racing. But that was 2011. What are they doing in 2012? Jaime Alguersuari […]
