Profile: Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat

The news that Daniil Kvyat will race for Toro Rosso in 2014 came as a surprise, as many expected Antonio Felix da Costa to replace Red Bull bound Daniel Ricciardo, with Kvyat stepping up to Formula Renault 3.5. Instead, Kvyat will make the leap into Formula 1, racing alongside current driver Jean-Eric Vergne for the Faenza based team. So just who is Daniil Kvyat? Kvyat was born in Ufa, Russia, in April 1994 but he and his family moved to Italy early on in his […]

Van der Garde 'had nowhere to go'

Giedo van der Garde says he had 'nowhere to go' after his Japanese Grand Prix ended at the corner. The Dutch driver was involved in a collision with Jules Bianchi and subsequently suffered a heavy impact into the barriers. "My start was okay but going into turn one I was squeezed between both the Marussia cars and had nowhere to go," he said. "I lost my front wing in contact with Bianchi and then the car went straight off and into the wall. It was […]

Sebastian Vettel led a Red Bull one-two during second practice for the Japanese Grand Prix. Vettel was almost two-tenths of a second faster than team-mate Mark Webber. Nico Rosberg was third, with Kimi Raikkonen in fourth. The Finn's day ended prematurely when he spun off the circuit at the Esses and beached the Lotus E21 in the gravel with 25 minutes of the session remaining. Ricciardo pleased after both Toro Rossos make Q3

Daniel Ricciardo says Toro Rosso achieved a very good result after both cars made it through to Q3 in Italy. Ricciardo will start from seventh place, with team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne in tenth "It’s nice to be back in Q3. Maybe at the end, a top five finish might have been on the cards. However, we missed a little something in Q3, doing a two lap run, and with hindsight, maybe a one lap run with a lighter fuel load would have been better, but I […]

Alonso fastest as Formula 1 returns at soggy Barcelona

Fernando Alonso set the fastest time during a first practice session affected by wet weather. His team-mate, Felipe Massa, was second, with Toro Rosso's Jean-Eric Vergne in third. The session started with drivers requiring to use full wet tyres. This was bad news for most teams, who are desperate to test their large update packages ahead of the race. Romain Grosjean suffered a minor spin under braking at Turn 10 in his Lotus, while a few other drivers struggled while turning into the chicane. The […]

Title challenge still on track says Alonso

Fernando Alonso thinks his 2013 title challenge is still on track, despite a difficult start to the new season. After a podium in Australia, the Spaniard's campaign hit the gravel in Malaysia recently when he made contact with eventual winner Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull on the first lap. Instead of pitting, Alonso gambled on staying out but retired when the damaged wing broke underneath his car. "In any case, the race simulations state that if I would have stopped to change the nose, I would […]
