Paffett believes Magnussen can push Button

McLaren test driver Gary Paffett believes that rookie Kevin Magnussen will be able to push Jenson Button this season. Reigning Formula Renault 3.5 champion Magnussen will make his debut for McLaren in 2014, having replaces Sergio Perez at the team. Button eclipsed Perez by 24 points during 2013, in which McLaren failed to finish on the podium. McLaren test and reserve driver Gary Paffett has said that he does not understand why Lewis Hamilton has moved to Mercedes. Hamilton joins Mercedes on a three year contract, having raced for McLaren since 2007. "Some drivers move for their own certain reasons," Paffett said at the Autosport Show. "I think a few of the times they move people don't understand it and I don't understand this one. I don't understand why he moved," added the 2005 DTM champion. "I knew Lewis very well, I […]

Force India to announce second driver on Wednesday

Swiss newspaper Blick has tipped Force India to announce Paul di Resta's next teammate on Wednesday. Veteran journalist Roger Benoit said the Silverstone based team has weighed up paying drivers including Adrian Sutil and Bruno Senna, or an essentially unsponsored talent like Sebastien Buemi. "With five million, I would be there immediately," Swiss Buemi, currently Red Bull's reserve driver, said. "But I'm still optimistic." Also still in doubt is Nico Hulkenberg's 2013 teammate at Sauber, as candidates Esteban Gutierrez and the impressive new Renault World […]

Teams look ahead to Mugello test

Like Ferrari, Red Bull is another team looking keenly ahead to this week's test at Mugello. "Not only do we have many new parts in the luggage," promised team advisor Dr Helmut Marko, according to Auto Motor und Sport on Monday. "For the first time in a long time, we are also going to give much more attention to the car setup. There are still gaps in our understanding," he said, a week after Sebastian Vettel's breakthrough first win of 2012 in Bahrain. This week's […]

Hamilton may take part in McLaren's Mugello test

Lewis Hamilton is rethinking McLaren's scheduled approach to the rare and crucial in-season test at Mugello next week. The British team announced last week that both Hamilton and his teammate Jenson Button would sit out Mugello, so that testers Gary Paffett and Oliver Turvey can run over the three-day session instead. But that was before Bahrain, where McLaren's early-season upper hand vanished, leaving the drivers and team members scratching their heads over the way the MP4-27 ate rapidly through the Pirelli tyres. "It (the Mugello […]

De la Rosa slams 'young driver test' format

Pedro de la Rosa has slammed the format of this week's 'young driver test' in Abu Dhabi, saying it is not fair experienced drivers are left in the cold as the sport looks to control its costs.
