Force India set for 'comprehensive' upgrade

Force India is set for a "comprehensive" upgrade of its Mercedes-powered VJM09 at this weekend's fifth round of the season in Spain. Force India has endured a challenging start to the 2016 campaign, scoring only eight points across the opening four races to sit eighth in the Constructors' championship. Sergio Perez collected his first points of the year in Russia and believes Friday's running at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will be crucial to the outfit. "Barcelona will be the first chance to run our updated […]

Mallya: Force India expected more from opening races

Force India team boss Vijay Mallya says the outfit expected to have racked up more points across the opening three rounds of the season. Nico Hulkenberg collected seventh at the Australian Grand Prix but Force India failed to secure a top 10 finish in either Bahrain or China. Both Hulkenberg and team-mate Sergio Perez were involved in collisions early on in Bahrain, while Perez could manage only 11th at Shanghai in the lead VJM09. Force India thus occupies seventh in the championship, behind rivals Haas […]

Hulkenberg gets penalty for wheel failure

Stewards at the Chinese Grand Prix have imposed a three-place grid penalty on Nico Hulkenberg after his left front wheel detached from his car during qualifying on Saturday. Hulkenberg was on a slow lap when his wheel worked loose as he rounded Turn 10, and detached from his VJM09, eventually coming to a halt by the side of the track. Hulkenberg had set a lap time quick enough to ensure his progression through to Q3, but he was unable to participate in the session due […]

Hulkenberg sure fourth still realistic

Nico Hulkenberg is sure Force India can still challenge for fourth position in the Constructors' championship, despite a tricky start to the 2016 campaign. Force India finished fifth in last year's standings and co-owner Vijay Mallya set the outfit the goal of improving by one position, though after two races the team sits in seventh position, 14 points behind fourth-placed Williams. Hulkenberg nonetheless believes that Force India has been compromised across the first two rounds and is sure that improvements will be made. "I think […]

Perez: Time to start season properly

Sergio Perez is confident that he can start his season "properly" in China after a difficult opening couple of rounds to the 2016 campaign. Perez was able to finish only 13th in Australia before first lap contact in Bahrain skewered his prospects of points as he came home in a lowly 16th place. The Force India driver is hopeful that he kick start his season at a venue where he has only scored points once in five attempts. "After two disappointing races I want to […]

Force India: Early collisions masked true pace

Force India believes early collisions at the Bahrain Grand Prix masked the outfit's true pace, as it slipped to its worst race classification for several years. Nico Hulkenberg started from eighth position but damaged his front wing at Turn 1 and was forced to pit at the end of the lap, scuppering his strategy en-route to a lowly 15th place. Sergio Perez gained six places at the start but hit Carlos Sainz Jr. on the second lap and also had to pit, suffering a similar […]

Force India development driver Alfonso Celis Jr. will make his Formula 1 weekend debut in Bahrain, when he participates in the first practice session next Friday. Celis Jr. joined the outfit at the end of 2015 and will take part in seven Friday sessions, the first of which will be next weekend, in place of compatriot Sergio Perez. Mixed emotions for Force India pair

Force India drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez left the Australian Grand Prix with mixed emotions, as Hulkenberg claimed seventh while Perez was a lowly 13th. Both drivers felt they were caught out by the suspension of the race, caused by the collision between Fernando Alonso and Esteban Gutierrez, but Hulkenberg was able to recover to seventh. Perez, meanwhile, was compromised by McLaren's Jenson Button before he was slowed further by brake issues. "To get some points in the bag at the first race is […]

Force India development driver Alfonso Celis Jr. will debut the squad's new VJM09 on Monday and complete half of the running during the first pre-season test in Spain. Celis Jr. joined the outfit at the end of 2015 and participated in the post-race tyre test in Abu Dhabi. Hulkenberg: Less testing could aid Force India

Nico Hulkenberg believes the cut in pre-season testing days this season could be beneficial for his Force India outfit. Force India introduced a B-spec version of its VJM08 mid-2015 and was a regular points scorer across the second half of the campaign. Hulkenberg is hopeful that the reduction in pre-season test days from 12 to eight will enable Force India to maintain its momentum into 2016. "Less testing could mean better opportunities during the first couple of races if we’re better prepared than others - […]

Perez: Force India must repeat fifth place

Sergio Perez says repeating fifth position in the Constructors' championship must be the minimum target for the outfit after its most successful campaign in 2015. Perez and Force India recovered from a difficult start to the campaign to emerge strongly mid-season, with Perez finishing on the podium en-route to a career-high ninth in the standings, which aided Force India's final position of fifth. Force India finished behind only Mercedes, Ferrari, Williams and Red Bull in the overall classification but the Mexican believes the outfit must […]
