Ferrari says Raikkonen injury 'no problem'

Ferrari insists it was aware of the extent of Kimi Raikkonen's back problems when the Finn was signed up for 2014. The deal was announced in early September, which was before the Singapore grand prix, where Raikkonen admitted he was taking pain killers. And the 2007 world champion, who is replacing the Williams-bound Felipe Massa, is currently recovering from surgery that has forced him to miss the last two races of the season for Lotus. Asked by the British broadcaster Sky if Ferrari knew about […]

Force India: No room for complacency

Force India team principal Vijay Mallya has urged his squad not to get complacent despite a 24 point buffer to Sauber in the fight for sixth place in the championship. Mallya is hoping that wet weather this weekend in Brazil could aid his team in pulling off a strong result. Last season, Nico Hulkenberg led the Brazilian Grand Prix and finished the race in fifth place for the team. "It was important that we secured such strong results in India and Abu Dhabi," he said. […]

'Solid' result pleases Hulkenberg, Gutierrez misses out

Nico Hulkenberg says he is pleased after a good weekend in Austin resulted in him scoring eight points courtesy of a sixth place finish. Hulkenberg started the race in fourth place and battled with Fernando Alonso over fifth, but ultimately had to play second fiddle to the Spaniard. "A very solid result yet again," he said. "If I’m not mistaken, since Monza that would have been the eighth points finish in a row if it wasn’t for the brake disc failure in India and the […]

Kovalainen targeting solid points finish

Heikki Kovalainen believes he can score decent points during the United States Grand Prix. Kovalainen, driving in place of the injured Kimi Raikkonen, qualified his Lotus in eighth place. It was the first time the Finn has qualified in the top 10 since the Japanese Grand Prix four years ago, when he was driving for McLaren. Kovalainen cited compatriot Raikkonen's typical progression from lowly grid slots. "I knew yesterday that we had a good car, but I didn’t really set myself a target for qualifying," […]

Why playing the waiting game can reap rewards

In a sport where getting around as quickly as possible is the ultimate goal, playing the waiting game can sometimes pay dividends. In a driver market with more fluidity than the River Nile, Nico Hülkenberg’s decision to remain with Sauber, rather than replace the injured Kimi Räikkönen at Lotus, leaves him with more options on the table for 2014. Hülkenberg could have moved teams for this weekend’s United States Grand Prix, but opted to stay with Sauber due to reservations over 2014. “Of course it […]
