Ferrari has "almost certainly" abandoned its novel approach to front suspension layout ahead of the 2014 season. That is the claim of the authoritative Italian publication Autosprint, after Ferrari came close to winning last year's title with the 'pullrod' system not seen on the F1 grid for more than a decade. Ferrari, however, fell well short of having the fastest car in 2013, despite Fernando Alonso managing to finish runner-up behind Red Bull's dominant Sebastian Vettel. Autosprint reports: "The 2014 Ferrari will almost certainly abandon […]
Jules Bianchi didn't have a seat as February turned into March. By the end of the month, he had impressed the Formula 1 community and he continued to build on his promise throughout the rest of the year. Prior to the start of the 2013 Formula 1 season, Max Chilton was in the unusual position of having had three team-mates even before flying out to the first round in Australia. Marussia veteran Timo Glock agreed to depart in order for the team to improve their […]
2013 world champion Sebastian Vettel remains undefeated since the summer break as he stormed to his ninth successive victory, ahead of outgoing Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso. Heading into the winter break with some scope for optimism is always an important asset in Formula 1. The first test of 2014 at Jerez begins in a little over two months and every single team is determined to get it right; fail and the consequences could be felt for more than just the […]
An emotional Mark Webber said he was pleased to bow out of Formula 1 by finishing on the podium and sharing the experience with Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso. Webber started his 215th and final race in the sport in Brazil and finished in second place. The Australian will remain in competitive action in 2014 as he moves to Porsche for an assault on the World Endurance Championship. "It was nice to take the helmet off for the final lap," he said. "In this sport […]
Felipe Massa hit out at the stewards after he was given a drive through penalty during the Brazilian Grand Prix. Massa was running in fourth place when he was deemed to have cut the pit entry and was handed a drive through. The Brazilian, starting his final race for Ferrari, hit out at the stewards over the team radio, calling the decision 'unacceptable' and 'unbelievable'. Massa went on to finish in seventh place. "It was really a shame. I was having a great race. Then […]
Lewis Hamilton says he is disappointed with his own performance after he finished the Brazilian Grand Prix in ninth place. Hamilton started from fifth but moved up to fourth at the start and was set to finish just outside of the podium positions. But the Brit moved over on Valtteri Bottas under braking at the Descida de Lago and was handed a drive through penalty for the incident. "It was a tough race today," he said. "I don't know what happened exactly with Valtteri and […]
Sebastian Vettel signed off his 2013 championship season in style by storming to victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix, equalling Michael Schumacher's record of 13 wins in a single Formula 1 season. Vettel lost the lead to Nico Rosberg at the start but quickly got through on his compatriot and was never troubled as forecast rain failed to materialise. Vettel's only danger came when Red Bull did not have his tyres ready at his second stop, slashing his lead from 12 to five seconds. Mark […]
Nico Rosberg believes a lack of KERS power cost him time to pole sitter Sebastian Vettel after qualifying in second place for the Brazilian Grand Prix. Rosberg, who was quickest in Friday practice, finished the session almost seven-tenths of a second behind his compatriot in wet conditions. "That was a very demanding qualifying session today with really tricky conditions and a long break before the final session," he said. "I'm really pleased to have achieved second place on the grid and a big thank you […]
Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne expressed their happiness after qualifying in the top 10 for the Brazilian Grand Prix. Ricciardo will start his final race for Toro Rosso from seventh place on the grid. "It was tricky out there this afternoon, but even since last year, we have often demonstrated that we can be competitive in the wet," he said. "It’s the best qualifying the team has had in a long time and I am very happy that both cars are in the top eight. […]
Caterham duo Charles Pic and Giedo van der Garde say that wet weather would be preferable as they bid to snatch 10th place in the Constructors' championship from Marussia. Marussia has held the position since the first race in Australia but a 13th place finish for either Pic of Van der Garde would result in Caterham jumping ahead of their rivals in a battle that has lucrative financial outcomes. Last season, Caterham overhauled Marussia in the final race of the year in Brazil, one which […]
Sebastian Vettel stormed to pole position in wet conditions during qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix. The world champion set a lap time of 1:26.479 to finish six tenths of a second faster than Mercedes's Nico Rosberg. Fernando Alonso was third for Ferrari. The start of Q3 was delayed due to the rain intensifying but the final qualifying segment of the season eventually got underway after a 40 minute delay. Vettel seized the advantage on wet tyres but the track dried sufficiently for Intermediates to […]
Jean-Eric Vergne says that he must improve as a driver after a 'difficult' season in Formula 1. Vergne lost out on the Red Bull seat vacated by Mark Webber to Daniel Ricciardo and has finished in the points just three times this season. Vergne's last top 10 finish came at the Canadian Grand Prix in June. "It was a difficult season," he said ahead of this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix. "I have to say that I’ve been quite unlucky in many races, not finishing when […]
