Nasr says Sauber seat 'possible' for 2015

Felipe Nasr has set his sights on a 2015 race debut in Formula One. The Brazilian is Williams's official reserve driver in 2014 and a frontrunner in the GP2 series. Significantly backed by Banco do Brasil, the 21-year-old says his management has already opened negotiations for a F1 race seat in 2015. "Conversations have begun already," he told Brazil's Sportv. "My management is looking around. "Force India is difficult, but I think Sauber is possible." Nasr said he is not interested in joining a back-of-the-grid […]

Nasr: Difficult without tyre blankets

Felipe Nasr says that getting tyres up to temperature without tyre blankets will prove to be difficult after he spent a day conducting development work for Pirelli. Formula 1 is set to ban heating devices for tyres from 2015 and Williams reserve driver Nasr had his first experience of competing without tyre warmers in Bahrain. "We worked on many new compounds and it was another productive day for me to learn the processes and feeling of driving a Formula 1 car, and I did quite […]

The 21-year-old Brazilian drove the FW36 during the final pre-season test at the circuit last month. Nasr will dovetail his Williams role with his GP2 commitments with Carlin, as the series begins in Bahrain this weekend. Nasr will be […]

Nasr thrilled by debut run

Felipe Nasr said he was very happy after driving a Formula 1 car for the first time. The Brazilian driver has joined Williams as the team's official test and reserve driver. Nasr took to the track on Saturday and completed 87 laps on his way to setting the fourth fastest time. "I am very happy to have driven a Formula 1 car for the first time, and reaching 87 laps made it also a very productive day," he said. "There were so many things going […]

Williams announces Petrobras deal

Williams has announced a new multi-year partnership with Brazilian multi-national energy company Petrobras. Petrobras was a partner of the team between 1998 and 2009. Petrobras and Williams will work together to develop a new specialist motorsport fuel for use by the team starting in the 2015 season. "Petrobras and Williams have had a successful partnership before and we are both looking forward to reuniting for 2014," said team principal Sir Frank Williams. "Technologically they are very strong and that will be important for the team […]

Nasr set for Friday role at Williams

One of the very last seats in Formula One is set to be filled by rookie Felipe Nasr. Last November, we reported that following countryman Felipe Massa's move to Williams for 2014, another Brazilian looked set to become the official reserve driver at Grove. 21-year-old Nasr, a GP2 frontrunner, is backed by Brazilian sponsors Banco do Brasil and Sky Brasil, and managed by Kimi Raikkonen's manager Steve Robertson. Italy's Autosprint now reports that Nasr looks to have signed an agreement with Williams that will involve […]

Smedley won't be Massa's race engineer at Williams

Felipe Massa will not be reuniting with his usual race engineer in 2014. There has been speculation that, because both Brazilian Massa and his well-known, long-time race engineer Rob Smedley are moving from Ferrari to Williams, they might reunite in their old working relationship at the Grove based team. But it is believed Briton Smedley, who has been at Ferrari for ten years and is famous for his big-brotherly radio banter with Massa, has accepted an engineering role with greater responsibility at Williams. Indeed, Williams […]

Great Dane: Kevin Magnussen's rise to Formula 1

The news that Kevin Magnussen will replace Sergio Pérez at McLaren in 2014 had been expected, but it’s nonetheless a bold gamble from a team aiming to return to the front next season. McLaren’s attempts to place Magnussen at Marussia or perhaps Force India for his rookie campaign – as Ferrari has done with Jules Bianchi – were ultimately fruitless. Rather than let Magnussen sit on the pit wall for a year, McLaren took the decision to promote Magnussen at the expense of Pérez. Considering […]

Reserve Nasr to join Massa at Williams in 2014

Felipe Nasr could be the next Brazilian piece of the puzzle for Williams. It is believed the appointment of Felipe Massa for 2014 could entice the Brazilian oil company Petrobras back to the famous British F1 team. Indeed, Massa hopes to revive Williams' glory days, when drivers like Nelson Piquet and Ayrton Senna were at the wheel. "It's very nice to be in this team, a team that was very important for Brazil and I hope will be again very important for Brazil," he said. […]

McLaren door still open for Hulkenberg

Nico Hulkenberg is in the running not only at Lotus for 2014, but also McLaren. That is the claim of the German magazine Sport Bild, who said even a return to Force India for the German has not been ruled out. Hulkenberg, 26, admitted in Singapore last weekend that moving from Force India to Sauber last winter might have been a mistake. "Well, regret is a big word," he told the British broadcaster Sky, "but if you move teams you want to progress, you want […]
