Feature: Rosberg moves streets ahead

The inaugural Formula 1 race around the Baku City Circuit promised much but ultimately delivered little. The supporting GP2 Series races had been littered with incidents and Safety Car periods but the Formula 1 boys behaved themselves and a clean first lap led to a large field spread, which naturally grew across the course of the afternoon. Any hopes of a Mercedes tete-a-tete dissipated following a messy qualifying session for Lewis Hamilton. The Briton had been on form throughout practice but lost his way on […]

Perez: Vettel scrap possible without penalty

Sergio Perez reckons he could have scrapped with Ferrari rival Sebastian Vettel for second at the European Grand Prix, had he not been handed a grid penalty for a gearbox change. Perez crashed out of the final practice session on Saturday and the damage to his car meant he required an unscheduled gearbox change. Perez qualified on the front row of the grid but the sanction demoted him to seventh; however, he made progress during the race at the Baku City Circuit to move into […]

Alonso says McLaren retired as a precaution

Fernando Alonso says he retired from the European Grand Prix as a precaution, due to a worsening gearbox problem with his McLaren-Honda MP4-31. Alonso was battling with Jenson Button on the fringes of the top 10 when he slowed, pulling into the garage with nine laps remaining at the Baku City Circuit. Raikkonen: No point to defend from Perez

Kimi Raikkonen says there was no point fighting Sergio Perez on the final lap of the European Grand Prix due to the time penalty which he picked up earlier in the race. Raikkonen crossed the white line entering the pit lane and was slapped with a five second time penalty, before he pulled aside to allow team-mate Sebastian Vettel to pass. Raikkonen ran in third place but had an insufficient buffer to Perez in order to negate the impact of his penalty. Perez attacked Raikkonen […]

Daniel Ricciardo says excessive tyre degradation caused Red Bull to switch to a two-stop strategy during the European Grand Prix. Ricciardo started from the front row of the grid and maintained his position across the opening couple of laps, before he was demoted by Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel. Ricciardo switched from the Super Soft to the Soft tyres but continued to struggle and required a second stop, during which he took on a set of Mediums, recovering to seventh place. "We were forced that way, the […]
