Prost warns Hamilton to change driving style

Four times world champion Alain Prost has advised Lewis Hamilton to change his driving style if he is to find success under Formula 1's new regulations. Prost, who has been working with Renault this season, believes that reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel has an advantage and it is up to Hamilton to modify his approach. "The way Sebastian works with people in the team, we know that he is doing little things different to the rest," Prost said. "That gives him an advantage and makes […]

Red Bull won't stop me winning insists Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo insists Red Bull will give him a fair shot at race wins even though his teammate is the multiple world champion Sebastian Vettel. Some believe that, despite the champion team pledging identical equipment and support for the young Australian in 2014, Red Bull chose Ricciardo over a high profile candidate like Kimi Raikkonen in deference to Vettel's likely status next year as a quadruple title winner. Indeed, while "excited" at the prospect of going head-to-head with Vettel in F1's top team, 24-year-old Ricciardo […]

Symonds focusing on next year's Williams

New Williams chief technical officer Pat Symonds says his focus is on the team's 2014 car. Symonds joined the team earlier this week and will attend the Belgian Grand Prix with Williams for the first time. "There are developments going on for the remainder of this season, he said. "We have new parts coming to races as far out as Korea and beyond. They are not things I’ve had influence on but I can see them in the development programme." "I hope we can look […]

Sirotkin to begin Sauber programme on Tuesday

Sergey Sirotkin's preparation for his 2014 Formula One debut remains on track. That is the message not only from the struggling Swiss team, but also the Sirotkin camp, following reports Sauber's Russian rescue deal could collapse. Sauber responded angrily to media reports earlier this week, insisting the collaboration with Russian partners is in fact "progressing well". "The contract with Sergey Sirotkin is in place," the Hinwil based team said. Now, Russian media reports quote the 17-year-old driver's press service as saying Sirotkin will travel to […]

Jordan and Schumacher disagree over Raikkonen's next move

Eddie Jordan has tipped Red Bull to pick Daniel Ricciardo as Sebastian Vettel's new teammate for 2014. Lotus team boss Eric Boullier said as recently as last Friday that he is doing "everything we can" to convince Kimi Raikkonen to stay next season. Jordan, a former F1 team owner turned broadcaster for British television, thinks the Finn will ultimately decide to turn down Red Bull's admitted strong interest. "At first I was pretty sure that Raikkonen will replace Mark Webber," Jordan told Russia's f1news.ru. "But […]

Brawn warns more changes could hurt Mercedes

Ross Brawn has warned Mercedes against making more big changes to the team that could result in a performance dip. It was believed McLaren's 'gardening leave' technical director Paddy Lowe was set to replace Brawn as the Brackley based team's boss in 2014. And, following the recent departure of Norbert Haug and the arrival at Mercedes of new shareholders Niki Lauda and Toto Wolff, it has been rumoured that further staff changes at the team's UK headquarters could now follow. Brawn, however, warned that more […]

HRT cars to be used in BOSS GP

HRT's Formula 1 cars will be used in this season's BOSS GP Series. Teo Martin, a Spanish businessman, acquired two of the 2011 cars and their equipment after the team folded at the end of last season. HRT raced in Formula 1 between 2010 and 2012 but failed to score a point. It is hoped the cars will be prepared by the end of this month. BOSS GP features Formula 1 cars against Champcars, Indycars, GP2 and F3000 machines, with the next round taking place […]

Rivals study Red Bull's record pitstops

After Red Bull beat McLaren's old pitstop speed record no fewer than five times in Malaysia, rivals have been studying the case with great curiosity. According to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, the competition has concluded that Red Bull's advantage is not due to having a superior crew, or having simply invested more time practicing. "One or two fantastic stops, you can imagine that," McLaren sporting director Sam Michael is quoted as saying. "But five, with that consistency -- that's really impressive." The suspicion is […]

No number one at Mercedes insists Brawn

Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn says that there is no number one at his team after Nico Rosberg was told not to challenge Lewis Hamilton during the closing stages of the Malaysian Grand Prix. Hamilton was running in third place at Sepang, with Rosberg pleading with his team to allow him through to challenge the leading Red Bull drivers. Brawn informed Rosberg that he was not permitted to pass his team mate. But Brawn insists that there is no preferential treatment given to either driver […]

Australia podium sufficient as Ferrari target long game

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domencali insists that a podium in next weekend's Australian Grand Prix would provide a good platform on which to mount a season-long title challenge. Ferrari's recent record at Albert Park has been poor, with just one podium - Felipe Massa in 2010 - to show from the previous five races in Australia. "I expect that the teams who finished in the top positions in Sao Paulo [2012] will repeat that in Melbourne, probably with a reduced advantage – that’s what we […]

Hulkenberg ready for new challenge with Sauber

Nico Hulkenberg has said he is ready to begin the next chapter of his career ahead of pre-season testing in three weeks' time. Hulkenberg will race for Sauber this season, his third team in three years of racing. "It was not always my choice [changing teams], except for the switch to Sauber. At the end of 2010 I was more or less forced into a team change!", the German told the Official F1 website. "Being confronted with such a situation you simply have to get […]

Horner: 'I wouldn’t have kept Massa'

Felipe Massa is lucky to have kept his seat at Ferrari. That is the view of Christian Horner, the boss of Ferrari's chief championship rival in 2012, the reigning title winners Red Bull. Asked if he would have inked a new deal with Brazilian Massa in 2013, Horner admitted: "No, I don't think I would have. "Unfortunately, it's a tough business, and results-based," he told the book The Official Formula 1 Season Review 2012. "You've got to look at what the guy in the other […]
