Kvyat labels Toro Rosso demotion a 'shock'

Daniil Kvyat says news of his demotion from Red Bull to Toro Rosso came as a "shock" as he prepares for his first weekend back with the Italian operation. Kvyat raced for Toro Rosso in 2014 but was moved up to Red Bull in 2015 amid Sebastian Vettel's departure to Ferrari. However, Red Bull has now promoted Max Verstappen at the expense of Kvyat, who will return to Toro Rosso for the remainder of 2016. "I think obviously the decision in a way was a […]

Marko: Red Bull trying to help Kvyat

Red Bull motorsport consultant Helmut Marko says that Daniil Kvyat could not cope with the pressure of racing alongside Daniel Ricciardo and insists the Russian's demotion will be beneficial. Kvyat joined Red Bull at the start of 2015 and finished on the podium in China, but endured a troublesome home race, twice colliding with Sebastian Vettel at the start before trailing home in 15th place. Kvyat, who was out-qualified 4-0 by Ricciardo across the opening four Grands Prix, will return to Toro Rosso, having raced […]

Verstappen replaces Kvyat at Red Bull

Red Bull has confirmed that Max Verstappen will join the team with immediate effect, with Daniil Kvyat returning to Toro Rosso. Kvyat endured a challenging Russian Grand Prix, twice making contact with Sebastian Vettel through the first sequence of corners before going on to finish a lowly 15th. Verstappen will partner Daniel Ricciardo, while Kvyat will join Sainz Jr. at Toro Rosso, having raced for the team in 2014. "Max has proven to be an outstanding young talent," said Red Bull boss Christian Horner. "His […]

Kvyat apologises for first lap Vettel clash

Daniil Kvyat has apologised to Ferrari rival after they clashed on the opening lap for a second successive race in Russia. Kvyat hit Vettel under braking for Turn 2 and clipped the Ferrari driver once more at Turn 3, the latter contact sending Vettel into the barriers. Kvyat was handed a 10 second stop and go penalty for causing the collision and had three penalty points added to his license. "There was a bit going on obviously in the last moment I didn’t expect to […]

Kvyat doubts Red Bull can challenge Williams

Daniil Kvyat says he doubts whether Red Bull will be able to provide a challenge to Williams across the course of the Russian Grand Prix. Red Bull has bested Williams so far in 2016 but the nature of the Sochi Autodrom has played into the hands of Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa, who will line up from second and fourth respectively. Kvyat, meanwhile, is a comparatively lonely eighth on the grid for his home race. "I thought we could find something extra for Q3 but […]

Kvyat sure of sustained Red Bull challenge

Daniil Kvyat is sure that Red Bull can fight among the leading pack throughout the course of 2016 after an encouraging start to the current campaign. Red Bull secured four successive titles between 2010 and 2013 but slipped behind Mercedes when Formula 1 introduced new regulations in 2014, before regressing to fourth overall in 2015. Red Bull has recovered so far this year, with Kvyat finishing in third place in China, bringing Red Bull to within four points of Ferrari in the championship, albeit with […]

Vettel hits out at 'torpedo' Kvyat

Sebastian Vettel criticised Red Bull rival Daniil Kvyat after blaming the youngster for triggering a collision at the first corner in China. Kvyat surged forwards from sixth on the grid and adopted the inside line into Turn 1, with Vettel in the centre of the track and Kimi Raikkonen on a wide line. With Kvyat on the inside, Vettel reacted and moved towards the outside of the track, clipping Raikkonen and causing damage to both Ferrari cars. Vettel lambasted Kvyat via the team radio, calling […]

Kvyat: Initial Red Bull pace promising

Daniil Kvyat says the initial pace of Red Bull's RB12 at the Australian Grand Prix is promising but remains wary that the picture was distorted due to wet weather. Kvyat was second to Lewis Hamilton in the opening session, with team-mate Daniel Ricciardo, before he rounded out the top 10 in the second session. Both sessions were affected by wet weather, with only a narrow window of dry running available early in the afternoon. "Everything went well today I think, the car felt good out […]

Kvyat hopeful over 'small signs of progress'

Red Bull driver Daniil Kvyat says he would be satisfied if the outfit could demonstrate "small signs of progress" at the start of the 2016 campaign. Red Bull last year endured its worst season since it emerged as a Formula 1 front runner as initial deficiencies with its RB11 chassis were accentuated by performance and reliability issues with the Renault power unit. Kvyat eventually placed seventh in the standings and collected his first podium in Hungary as Red Bull classified fourth overall and the Russian […]

Kvyat satisfied with first year at Red Bull

Daniil Kvyat says he is satisfied by his level of performance after finishing his first season of Formula 1 racing with Red Bull. Kvyat competed for Toro Rosso in 2014 and was set to stay on at the outfit in 2015 until Sebastian Vettel's departure to Ferrari enabled the Russian to be promoted to the senior Red Bull squad. Kvyat recovered from a difficult start to score his maiden podium in Hungary and beat team-mate Daniel Ricciardo to seventh place in the standings. "I think […]

Kvyat hampered by electrical issues

Daniil Kvyat says his chances of claiming a strong finish at the Abu Dhab Grand Prix were hindered by an electrical problem in his Red Bull RB11. Kvyat was challenging Force India driver Nico Hulkenberg for seventh spot but his car overheated, affecting the performance and causing the Russian driver to slip back to 10th. "It was good that we managed to finish and I was happy with my pace in the first half of the race," he said. "So, up until about midway, it […]

Kvyat: Not possible to pass Hulkenberg

Red Bull driver Daniil Kvyat rued his lack of straight line speed as he was unable to get ahead of Force India rival Nico Hulkenberg during the Brazilian Grand Prix. Having passed the German at the start, Force India used the undercut at the first round of stops to move Hulkenberg ahead, leaving Kvyat down in seventh place, where he remained for the remainder of the race. "We extracted pretty much the maximum out of what we could have done," said Kvyat. "Unfortunately we got […]
