Former 'nutcase' Grosjean better in 2013 says Webber

One year ago, Romain Grosjean was F1's 'first lap nutcase', and soon to serve a rare race ban after his latest crash at Spa-Francorchamps. But Mark Webber, the author of the 'nutcase' jibe, said on Thursday that the Frenchman has turned it around. "Yes," the Australian is quoted by the Russian website f1news.ru. "But he had no other choice. This year he is coping with the problems better, but let's face it -- after last season, it (improving) wasn't too difficult. "In Budapest he made […]

Button blames balance issues after Q2 exit

Jenson Button pointed to balance issues after failing to progress from Q2 at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Button set the thirteenth fastest time at the Hungaroring. "When we run fresh rubber, I can’t get enough front-end in the car – we’re maxed out – so I’m struggling. In a way, that’s a positive – because it means we’ve introduced downforce to the rear of the car," he said "And hopefully that situation will change for the race, when you can play around with things in […]

Hamilton beats Vettel in thrilling Hungary qualifying

Lewis Hamilton secured his third successive pole position with a stunning late lap to deny Sebastian Vettel top spot at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Vettel was eighth tenths faster than his rivals after the first set of laps in Q3 but Hamilton eclipsed his rival by less than a tenth of a second. "I was really surprised, I was expecting Sebastian to get it, it didn't even feel that great a lap," said Hamilton. "I was pretty happy with my lap but it just wasn't […]

McLaren backing Perez amid criticism

McLaren is standing firmly behind Sergio Perez, despite fierce criticism from his rivals in the wake of the Monaco grand prix. Former team driver Kimi Raikkonen said he wanted to punch the young Mexican after their crash in the Principality, but McLaren sporting director Sam Michael said Perez's moves were nothing unusual. Fernando Alonso and even teammate Jenson Button also criticised the 23-year-old at Monaco, but on Tuesday Michael said: "All the moves that he did are all moves that have been done by all […]

Lotus owner Lopez backs Grosjean after Monaco crashes

Lotus owner Gerard Lopez has backed Romain Grosjean, amid speculation the Enstone based team could replace the beleaguered French driver. Having seemingly overcome his 'first lap nutcase' troubles of 2012, 27-year-old Grosjean is now back in the wars with a ten-place grid penalty for Montreal for his Monaco crash with Daniel Ricciardo. In the wake of the Monaco controversy, team boss Eric Boullier answered "not yet" when asked if Lotus might consider replacing Grosjean with GP2 champion Davide Valsecchi. He and team owner Lopez, however, […]
