With one of the titles already decided in Russia two weeks ago - when Mercedes retained its Constructors’ Championship following Kimi Raikkonen’s post-race penalty – the fight for the other trophy enters a decisive phase this weekend. Lewis Hamilton can clinch the Drivers’ title this weekend in Austin, three rounds before the end of the season. Hamilton admits struggle with brakes

Championship leader Lewis Hamilton admitted that he struggled with the brakes on his Mercedes W05 Hybrid throughout qualifying for the United States Grand Prix. Hamilton, who topped all three practice sessions, was unable to match Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg in Q3 and had to settle for second position, 0.376s behind his rival. While admitting that Rosberg was quicker, Hamilton believed that his brake issues accentuated his struggles. "Nico did a great job," said Hamilton, who won the event in 2012. "I was struggling with braking. […]

Vettel set for Austin pit lane start

Sebastian Vettel is set to start this weekend's United States Grand Prix from the pit lane as Red Bull considers changing his Renault Power Unit, leading to the prospect that he will sit out qualifying. 2014 regulations state that drivers will receive a 10 place grid penalty should they use a sixth version of any of the components which comprise the Power Units, but Vettel is likely to change every component in the Power Unit for a sixth time, effectively meaning he will race with […]

Hamilton thinks COTA is a real drivers' circuit

McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton believes that the Circuit of the Americas is a real drivers' circuit. Hamilton was second quickest in practice, behind Sebastian Vettel. "This is a great drivers’ track – it’s very tough to pull together three perfect sectors. Personally, I find the final two sectors easier than the first; those high-speed changes of direction need a good set-up, and balancing that requirement against the demands of the slow-speed stuff is tricky", he said. "Turn One probably looks more exciting from the outside […]
