F1 tyre situation 'painful' admits Whitmarsh

Some members of F1's travelling circus admitted their frustration at the end of the Chinese grand prix. "It's quite excruciating," McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh is quoted by the Telegraph, "trying to save tyres non-stop from start to finish. "It feels painful, and however bad it is for me, it must be a lot worse if you have to drive like that." He is referring to the new situation caused by Pirelli's rapidly-wearing 2013 tyres. Some hail the new era that stands in stark contrast […]

Sauber situation 'unacceptable' says Hulkenberg

New Sauber driver Nico Hulkenberg said eighth place in Malaysia last Sunday was "unacceptable". After moving over the winter from Force India, the German was unable to make his debut as scheduled in Australia when a terminal fuel tank problem developed 90 minutes before the race. But at Sepang, he finished four places ahead of rookie teammate Esteban Gutierrez, collecting four points and declaring himself "quite happy". According to German-language sources Blick (Switzerland) and Auto Motor und Sport (Germany), however, Hulkenberg told his team after […]

Webber will race in China - father

Mark Webber's father insists the 36-year-old Australian driver is not quitting Red Bull or Formula One. After teammate Sebastian Vettel passed him for victory in Malaysia in defiance of a team order, comments made post-race by Webber indicated he was now considering his future. Webber went straight from Sepang to a surfing holiday, insisting his phone will be "off the hook". At the same time, videos were emerging on Youtube showing Webber angrily swerving at Vettel at high speed after the pair had crossed the […]

Asked on Friday by the BBC reporter how he will feel when the chequered flag waves on Sunday, the 2008 world champion said in Brazil: "It's going to be tough. "It's my family and I'll be going elsewhere. It's best I don't talk about it too much," he said, before welling with tears. According to strong paddock rumours, Sunday's Brazilian grand prix will be the last lap for ailing backmarkers HRT. Red Bulls rue strategy choice

Both Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber admitted that strategic choices hampered their chances in a Hungarian Grand prix in which the champion finished fourth and his team-mate came home eighth. Starting third, Vettel made an attempt to go round the outside of second-placed Romain Grosjean at the start but, forced wide, he allowed Jenson Button to sneak through on the inside and dropped to fourth. Vettel then spent the first two stints bottled up behind the McLaren and only managed to get free when the […]

Whitmarsh: Hamilton should have avoided Maldonado crash

Lewis Hamilton should have known better before going wheel-to-wheel with Pastor Maldonado in the dying stages of Sunday's European grand prix. That is the view of the McLaren driver's boss Martin Whitmarsh, after the British team's top 2012 driver fell 23 points off the championship lead at Valencia. He crashed almost within sight of the chequered flag in a dice with Williams' Pastor Maldonado, and it was the Venezuelan who was penalised for the crash by the FIA. And while Maldonado hit out at his […]

Schumacher's bad luck in 2012 'incredible' says Sauber

Michael Schumacher's run of bad luck in 2012 is hard to fathom, according to Peter Sauber. Team boss Sauber, who was instrumental in bringing the seven time world champion into F1 in the early 90s, said that in the third year of his comeback with Mercedes, Schumacher is finally at the wheel of a worthy car. "But I have to say that Schumacher's bad luck is incredible," Sauber told the Swiss newspaper Blick, referring to yet another technical problem for the 43-year-old in Canada. In […]

Hulkenberg and Di Resta feel the force

Force India pairing Paul Di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg moved their team ten points closer to seventh place in the Constructors’ Championship after they finished seventh and eighth respectively at the Monaco Grand Prix. With Sauber finishing out of the points, after Sergio Pérez see-sawed up and down the order to eventually finish 11th and Kamui Kobayashi retired due to damage sustained in a first-corner incident in which he hit the stranded Lotus of Romain Grosjean, Force India are now 13 points behind the Swiss […]
