Caterham's assets put up for sale

Caterham's hopes of a Formula 1 return have been dashed after administrators put the team's assets up for sale. Caterham has been in administration since October last year but Smith & Williamson had been hopeful of securing a new buyer so that the team could return to the grid. However, on Thursday the squad's assets were put up for auction, meaning that a return for the team is nigh-on impossible. "Acting for the Joint Administrators Finbarr O’Connell, Henry Shinners and Anthony Spicer of Smith & […]

Frijns parts company with Caterham

Robin Frijns has parted company with Caterham after his contract with the outfit expired on Monday. Frijns, the 2012 Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion, joined Caterham at the start of the year after spending 2013 in a reserve role with Sauber. Frijns participated in pre-season testing and received practice outings in Bahrain and Britain, but his role with the team was cast into doubt when the team entered administration. "I’d like to say thank you and goodbye to all the people at Caterham F1 Team, […]

Caterham permitted to use 2014 car next year

Caterham will be allowed to re-use their 2014 machine, should the administrators find a buyer willing to keep the team in the sport. Caterham's administrator, Finbarr O'Connell, says that at a meeting of the Formula 1 Commission it was agreed that the squad can compete in 2015 with their CT05 - a move which needs final ratification at this week's World Motor Sport Council meeting in Qatar. "It was proposed as something to help Caterham and Marussia but will be available to any team if […]

Stevens pleased to finish maiden F1 race

Will Stevens says he is pleased to have finished his first race in Formula 1 as he came home in 17th place for Caterham. Stevens was drafted in by the team to race upon their return to the sport following a two-race absence and he briefly battled Fernando Alonso as the pit stops played out. "We completed the objective of the day, and that was to finish the race, which is good not only for me but also for the team – we can be […]

Stevens gets Caterham seat for Abu Dhabi

Caterham has confirmed that Will Stevens will line-up alongside Kamui Kobayashi at this weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Caterham is returning after a two-race absence and the Brit, who has previously tested for the Leafield-based squad, will link up with Kobayashi for the final round of the year. Stevens won two rounds of this year's Formula Renault 3.5 Series and signed for the team last week but had to wait until he received conformation of his Super Licence in order to make his Formula 1 […]

Kobayashi returns for Abu Dhabi

Kamui Kobayashi will return to Caterham for this weekend's season finale in Abu Dhabi. Kobayashi raced for the squad prior to it entering administration and missing the most recent two races in the United States and Brazil. But partly thanks to a crowd-funding effort, Caterham will make its return at Yas Marina with Kobayashi in one of the cars. "I am happy to be racing with the team in Abu Dhabi," said Kobayashi. "It hasn’t been an easy last few weeks, so it will be […]

Caterham makes 230 staff redundant

Caterham's Formula 1 team has made 230 employees redundant, ahead of its anticipated return at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Caterham entered administration at the end of October and the majority of employees, who have not been paid since the end of September, requested to be made redundant in order to start a formal claims process. "We are going to Abu Dhabi, racing and talking to potential buyers with meetings already arranged out there," said administrator Finbarr O'Connell from Smith & Williamson. "The second track […]

Lotterer not aiming for Caterham return

Andre Lotterer says he hasn't been offered a chance to drive for Caterham for the final round of the Formula 1 season in Abu Dhabi - and would reject a seat if he was asked. Three-time Le Mans winner made his Formula 1 debut earlier this season when he replaced Kamui Kobayashi for the Belgian Grand Prix. With Marcus Ericsson having departed the team few days ago, it is still not known who will drive for Caterham at the Yas Marina Circuit next weekend, with […]

Caterham confirms Abu Dhabi participation

Caterham has confirmed that it will make its Formula 1 return at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Caterham missed the last two races after entering administration but will return to the grid for next weekend's season finale at Yas Marina. Caterham's administrators Smith & Williamson set up a crowd-funding website in a bid to raise £2.35m and while the target has not yet been reached, it is expected that anticipated deals will see that number met. It has not been confirmed who will drive for […]

Caterham '90%' sure of Abu Dhabi presence

Administrators acting on behalf of Caterham's Formula 1 team say they are 90% sure that the squad will compete at next weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Caterham has been looking to raise £2.35m through a crowd-funding project and while they remain around £1m short of that target - which they must reach by the end of Friday - Finbarr O'Connell, from administrators Smith & Williamson, say that deals are being finalised which should result in the squad making it to the season finale. "What we […]

Ericsson terminates Caterham contract

Marcus Ericsson has severed his ties with Caterham, ahead of his move to Sauber for 2015. Ericsson raced for the team in his rookie campaign but the team entered administration ahead of the United States Grand Prix and was absent from the last two events. A crowd-funding website was set up with the aim of getting Caterham to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix but the squad is still £1m short of its target with 48 hours remaining. "Following recent events regarding Caterham Sports Limited and […]

Caterham administrator positive over future

Administrators acting on behalf of Caterham say that a 'financially sound interested party' has come forward following the squad's ambitious crowd-funding effort to make it to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Caterham entered administration in October and have been absent from the last two races but started a fundraising page on Friday, which has since raised over £1m of its £2.35m target, which must be reached by Friday. "Everyone involved is incredibly grateful and excited to have raised over £1m of support in less than […]
