Hülkenberg:

As a contrast to yesterday’s wet Qualifying session, the Hungaroring basked in searing sun for the Grand Prix, bringing tyre management considerations to the fore. Both Renault drivers made strong starts, but it proved hard work moving up the order thereafter. Hülkenberg was P10 at the end of the first lap, but finished in twelfth position, pushing hard after a late stop to change to the Ultrasoft tyres. “We didn’t have the pace in the car today, and the balance felt poor," Nico Hülkenberg explained. "Ultimately, […]

Toro Rosso struggled with speed

Sochi wasn’t an easy race weekend for Scuderia Toro Rosso as its drivers only managed to score one point during the Russian Grand Prix, due to lack of speed on the circuit’s long straights and a bad qualifying session on Saturday. Both cars made it to the end of the race but only Carlos Sainz managed to finish in points (P 10), while his team mate Daniil Kvyat saw the chequered flag on 12th. Toro Rosso is confident that the upgrades planned for Barcelona will get the team back into […]

How Mercedes avoided Red Bull's trap

The US Grand Prix was not one of the most exciting races of the season, but the strategic side was very interesting, with Red Bull continuing to probe Mercedes in a chess game; they might have split the two Silver Arrows had they had more luck with a Virtual Safety Car, triggered by one of their drivers to the detriment of the other. Meanwhile further back some important results were achieved for Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz by a combination of brilliant driving and decision-making. […]

Sainz Jr. sure STR in a good direction

Sainz Jr. qualified inside the top 10 and moved up to sixth during the early stages before becoming one of several drivers to lose control at Abbey. Sainz Jr. dropped down the order following the incident but was nonetheless able to secure eighth spot. "We had a very good first half of the […]

Sainz Jr. 'extremely happy' after STR turnaround

Carlos Sainz Jr. expressed his happiness as he secured seventh position on the grid for the British Grand Prix. Sainz Jr. described Friday's practice sessions as the most difficult ones of the campaign for Toro Rosso but secured a place in Q3 in the STR11. Sainz Jr. was initially the slowest driver in Q3 but profited from Nico Hulkenberg and Fernando Alonso having their quickest lap times deleted due to exceeding track limits, and moves up from eighth to seventh due to Sebastian Vettel's gearbox […]

Sainz Jr: Formula 1 can’t play with lives

Carlos Sainz Jr. is in a reflective mood as the first Formula 1 test reaches its end point at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Sainz has enjoyed two constructive days in Toro Rosso’s new Ferrari-powered STR11 and racked up 161 laps of the Spanish Grand Prix venue the day before we meet, though any signs of potential fatigue are not visible. Sainz’s team-mate, Max Verstappen, is lapping in Faenza’s new machine; both drivers made their Formula 1 debuts in 2015 but it was the Dutchman who […]
