Sauber will bring major upgrades to next weekend's Spanish Grand Prix as they bid to turn around their fortunes in 2014. Sauber has yet to score a point so far this season, with Adrian Sutil's 11th place in Australia their best result. Reliability has also been an issue, with Sutil finishing just once and team-mate Esteban Gutierrez twice. Sauber's C33 will be 'significantly improved', according to the Swiss team. Sauber will bring a car with an extensive weight reduction - an aspect which has particularly […]

Adrian Sutil has admitted that Sauber faces an uphill challenge ahead of this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix. Sauber has yet to score a point in 2014 and Sutil is not expecting their fortunes to change drastically in China. "The driveability of the car is still not easy," he said. "I am struggling with the tyres to get them to work. There is still a lot of work ahead of us. "In comparison to Bahrain, I think we had more straight line top speed, which brings […]

Sutil admits Sauber simply too slow

Adrian Sutil has admitted that Sauber is simply too slow ahead of this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix. Neither Sutil nor team-mate Esteban Gutierrez has scored a point so far in 2014, while their last two events have been blighted by unreliability and accidents. The German reckons Sauber made progress with the C33 at last week's post-race test in Bahrain but does not believe the team will make huge improvements until the sport reconvenes in Europe next month. "A little progress has been made at the […]

Esteban Gutierrez says that it is not yet possible for Sauber to score points during a Grand Prix. Gutierrez qualified in 15th place for the Bahrain Grand Prix but played down Sauber's hopes of finishing in the top 10. "I am satisfied with the result of qualifying today," he said. "We managed to put together some fast laps. I want to thank my team; they did a good job in finding the right balance from my feedback. We need to look forward and still work […]

Sutil hits out at weight restrictions

Sauber driver Adrian Sutil has hit out at Formula 1's weight restrictions, revealing that he is not even carrying a water bottle during the races this season. Weight has become a prominent issue in 2014 with heavier power units causing some teams to struggle to get down to the minimum weight, despite the figure of 691kg being an increase on 2013. It is understood that Sauber is struggling to reach the weight limit, exacerbating the issue for a tall driver such as Sutil. "We have […]

Sauber sure C33 issues identified

Sauber has identified the issues which have plagued the C33 in 2014, according to team principal Monisha Kaltenborn. Neither Adrian Sutil nor Esteban Gutierrez finished in Malaysia and while both drivers reached the chequered flag two weeks previously in Melbourne, they did so outside of the points. Sauber is reportedly struggling to get the C33 down to the weight limit, but Kaltenborn is confident that matters will soon improve. "Melbourne was important because we finished with both cars and Kuala Lumpur a disappointment because we […]

Sauber driver Adrian Sutil says that the C33 is still a difficult car to control. Sutil was 13th quickest during practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang. "In comparison to Melbourne, we made a few steps forward," he said. "The things we had on our plan partly worked out. However, the car is difficult to control and it is not easy to drive. We have a lot work ahead of us. We made steps in the right direction and it is working better than […]

Sutil: The car is not where we want it

Adrian Sutil has admitted that Sauber still needs to improve the C33 after qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix. Sutil set the 14th fastest time during a wet session but reckons the car still requires improvements. "We had a difficult weekend as did many others," he said. "The car is not where we want it to be yet, but I am quite satisfied we were able to run without any problems during qualifying and that we made it into Q2. The yellow flag at the […]

Sutil ancitipating Melbourne lottery

Adrian Sutil believes the season-opening Australian Grand Prix could be a lottery as Formula 1 enters a new era. 1.6 litre v6 power units have replaced 2.4 litre v8 engines and Sauber driver Sutil expects the uncertainty surrounding the pecking order to cause excitement. "Everything is new," he said. "Driving in qualifying will be very different to the race, because the cars will have more power than in the race." The German driver predicts that the new regulations will provide a challenge for both drivers […]

Gutierrez targets qualifying improvement

Sauber driver Esteban Gutierrez believes that he must improve on his qualifying performances if he is to move up the grid in 2014. Gutierrez made it through to the final segment of qualifying on only two occasions in 2013, leaving the Mexican frequently playing catch-up during the races. He scored points on one occasion, when he finished seventh in Japan. "I think it's mainly the experience I gained which gives me more confidence," he told Crash.net. "It's important to have this confidence in order to […]
