Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport score 30 points in front of the Silverstone crowd despite an eventful race that saw both of its drivers fighting until the very last lap. After a collision on the opening lap, Lewis Hamilton fought his way back through the field to claim P2. Valtteri Bottas came home P4 in the British Grand Prix after fighting for the win for much of the race. "It was a difficult race, but I gave it everything and I’m grateful to make it back up […]
A tough race for Max Verstappen today as he initially got up to third place from the busy start to eventually retire on lap 46. The decisive moment came during the first Safety Car when Red Bull put its both drivers on the medium tyre to the end of the race. Few laps later showed that the cars were powerless to attack or defend against opponents, especially on the straights. Frustration got higher when Verstappen had to retire due to a suspected brake-by-wire related issue. “It’s […]
The best race of the year so far ended with a win for Scuderia Ferrari, which sees Sebastian Vettel increase his lead by 7 points to 8 in the Drivers’ championship and the team extend its advantage by 10 points to 20 in the Constructors’. Despite some neck pain Vettel secured his fourth win of the season while team-mate Kimi Raikkonen made a good recovery following the collision with Lewis Hamilton shortly after the start, to bring Ferrari a double podium finish. The Mercedes driver […]
TEAM REPRESENTATIVES – Zak BROWN (McLaren), Guenther STEINER (Haas), Claire WILLIAMS (Williams), Vijay MALLYA (Force India) Q: Zak, since the last grand prix in Austria, you’ve announced some management changes at McLaren, so let’s deal with those first. First of all, why did Eric Boullier resign? Zak Brown: Well, ultimately you’d have to ask Eric that questions, but in my conversation with him earlier this week, you know we’ve been under an immense amount of pressure, really even before Eric started, and I think ultimately the […]
DRIVERS – Max VERSTAPPEN (Red Bull), Lewis HAMILTON (Mercedes), Charles LECLERC (Sauber) PRESS CONFERENCE Q: Charles, what a season it’s turning out to be. You’ve scored in five of the last six races, Q2 in the last six races. Clearly you’ve found a sweet-spot with the car. How much confidence do you have coming into this weekend? Charles LECLERC: Well, as I’ve said before, the confidence is not so high because I'm always looking at the negatives after each grand prix and yeah, there’s still plenty […]
The British Grand Prix turned out to be a dominant win for Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes, but the strategy that underlined the rest of the race outcome was fascinating as teams were caught in two minds whether to go with two stops or one. And many, having opted for the latter due to low degradation in the opening stint, found themselves with tyre problems at the end of the race. Ferrari suffered two costly tyre failures in the closing stages. Vettel pitted early to undercut […]
Fernando Alonso put on an unexpected show during qualifying on Saturday after driving a stoning lap in Q1 on slicks to be quickest of all by the hefty margin of 1.3 seconds. He nearly didn’t get his Q1 lap in – but, having crossed the line just in time, he made good his opportunity by totally nailing it. The Spaniard missed Q3 due to heavy traffic but his brave Q1 performance in the rain was a nice surprise for both the fans and his team. “We made […]
Romain Grosjean will start the British Grand Prix from 10th but claims that he had qualified at least one position higher if Lewis Hamilton wouldn't have blocked him. Grosjean moved into Q3 for the second straight race and the fifth time this season. His fastest time was a 1:29.549, which placed him 10th. Haas F1 Team says that an attempt to a better time ended when the Frenchman was held up by eventual pole winner Lewis Hamilton. Grosjean lost three-tenths of a second to the Mercedes driver and the […]
Renault Sport Formula One Team secured its best-ever qualifying finish at Silverstone since its full return to the sport 18 months ago. Nico Hülkenberg put the R.S.17 into sixth position in the rain-affected session for the British Grand Prix, his fifth Q3 entrance after China, Bahrain, Russia and Canada; and best qualifying since joining the team at the start of the year. After penalties further up the field, Hülkenberg will start fifth. “Today we had a very successful qualifying and will start the race just behind […]
Lewis Hamilton will start the British Grand Prix from pole position after setting the fastest time during qualifying on Saturday. The session began in wet conditions, with light rain dampening the track enough that teams used the intermediate tire throughout Q1. Drivers tiptoed on the wet surface as traction was hard to come by. The rain abated in Q2, allowing the track to dry enough for a return to slicks. Hamilton’s pole-winning lap of 1:26.600 set a new track qualifying record and was .547 of a second […]
Valtteri Bottas, Daniel Ricciardo and Fernando Alonso will all start the British Grand Prix from a lower position than from wherever they will qualify on Saturday. Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas received a five-place drop penalty due to an unscheduled gearbox change after Friday's practice sessions at Silverstone, just a week after his team-mate Lewis Hamilton endured the same fate. Stewards handed similar penalty to Daniel Ricciardo, whose Red Bull was also fitted a new gearbox on Friday as the previous one has not lasted the mandatory six […]
