Sauber again miss out on points

Sauber once again missed out on their first points of the season in the Brazilian Grand Prix, leading to the possibility that the squad will finish without a solitary point for the first time in their Formula 1 history. Esteban Gutierrez ran inside the top 10 during the first stint of the race but slipped back after being beset by tyre wear, while team-mate Adrian Sutil was thwarted by a cooling problem, which meant he had to start the race from the pit lane. "We […]

Massa thrilled by home podium

Felipe Massa expressed his happiness after claiming third position at his home race in Brazil. Massa climbed onto the podium despite being hit by a five second penalty for speeding in the pits, while he also erred by entering McLaren's pit box by mistake at his next stop. "It was not an easy race but what a fantastic result for me, for my family, and for the team to finish on the podium in front of my home fans," he said. "The energy from the […]

Button feels pit stop error hurt podium chance

Jenson Button believes that a communication error with his McLaren team over the timing of their final stop potentially cost him a chance of finishing on the podium at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Button ended the race in fourth but had been trailing Williams's Felipe Massa for much of the event and felt that a miscommunication hurt his challenge. "Judging the race was so tricky today. I pushed really hard on my first stint on the Prime [tyres] so as to maintain the gap to […]

Hulkenberg 'satisfied' with return to points

Nico Hulkenberg says he was satisfied after returning to the points paying positions at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Hulkenberg briefly led the race as tyre strategies played out and ended in eighth to notch up four more points for Force India. "It was quite a cool race and very satisfying to finish in eighth," he said. "With a three-stop race you are always pushing, but my race was not too complicated and I was on my own for a large part of the afternoon. I […]

Vergne laments 'painful' race

Jean-Eric Vergne lamented a 'painful' race as he missed out on points in the Brazilian Grand Prix. Vergne started the race from 15th position but was unable to make much progress and crossed the line in 13th place. "It was a little bit painful today," he said. "I spent almost the whole race in traffic behind [Sergio] Perez and I was slower than him, so even with the DRS open on the straight it was not possible to overtake him. "This made me lose a […]

Hamilton 'surprised' by pit call

Lewis Hamilton says he was surprised that Mercedes left him out for one extra lap at the end of his second stint in the Brazilian Grand Prix. Leader Nico Rosberg had stopped and Hamilton had expected to come in one lap later, so consequently pushed on to take out the maximum from his Medium tyres. But Mercedes left Hamilton out for an extra lap and the Brit spun under braking for the Descida do Lago, having lost grip in his rear tyres. Hamilton recovered to […]

Ricciardo's streak ended by suspension failure

Daniel Ricciardo has confirmed that suspension failure ended his run of 15 races in the points at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Ricciardo spent much of the first half of the race in the lower reaches of the top 10 before going wide at the Senna S with what the Australian thought was a brake problem. He returned to the pits where Red Bull diagnosed a suspension problem and retired his RB10. "From yesterday afternoon, [my] weekend went downhill, I have to be honest I felt […]

Rosberg wins as Hamilton recovers from spin

Nico Rosberg hung on to beat Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton to victory in the Brazilian Grand Prix. Rosberg held on across the final stint with Hamilton closing down a gap of seven seconds after he spun off at the end of the second stint of a race in which tyre wear was marginal. The result means that Hamilton heads to Abu Dhabi with a 17 point advantage over Rosberg. Home hero Felipe Massa was third for Williams despite a five second stop and go penalty […]

Kvyat sure of points charge despite penalty

Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat is sure he can fight for points in the Brazilian Grand Prix, despite having to start from the back row of the grid. Kvyat was penalised at the last race in the United States for using a seventh Internal Combustion Engine but he was only able to drop three places, rather than the required 10. Kvyat's penalty was therefore carried over to Brazil and while he progressed through to Q2, he opted not to post a time and will drop […]

Button aiming to put pressure on Ferrari

Jenson Button is hopeful that McLaren can achieve a strong result in the Brazilian Grand Prix in order to put pressure on Ferrari in the battle for fourth in the Constructors' Championship. McLaren is 49 points behind their rivals with two rounds remaining but the Brit, who will start the race from fifth place, is hoping that the squad can bag a haul of points to exert pressure on Ferrari. "It’s a massive gap to Ferrari but you’ve got to be ambitious and have targets […]

Massa happy despite Q3 issues

Felipe Massa expressed his happiness despite having to abort his final lap in qualifying for the Brazilian Grand Prix. Massa qualified in third place for his home race but had to abandon his last attempt after engine issues delayed his entry onto the track and left him mired in traffic. "[It's] very emotional to be here in Brazil and have a competitive car, [to] start in the top three," he said. "I didn’t use everything I could from the car as I had traffic and […]
