Alonso: I’d give myself a 10, motivation 10, determination 10

Fernando Alonso has dismissed rumours suggesting he will leave Ferrari and insists he is highly motivated ahead of the second half of 2013. Alonso is currently 39 points behind championship leader Sebastian Vettel. "After many years in Formula 1 I have never had a great Sunday here [at Spa] and I would like to finally get a good result," he said. "I think our expectations can be good ones as this circuit requires different levels of aero downforce and a very specific set-up and our […]

Raikkonen not ruling out Ferrari return

Kimi Raikkonen's manager is not ruling out a return to Ferrari for the 2007 world champion. On Monday, Steve Robertson admitted talks with Red Bull about Raikkonen replacing the Le Mans-bound Mark Webber had been "unsuccessful". But the 33-year-old Finn, who currently drives for Lotus, has also been linked with a return to Ferrari, despite the Italian team having replaced him with Fernando Alonso with a year to run on his contract at the end of 2009. Asked if Ferrari is an option, manager Robertson […]

Williams has 'healthy budget' for 2014

Deputy boss Claire Williams insists she is "happy" with the Oxfordshire based team's budget for 2014. Her comments come amid reports many teams on the grid, like Sauber and even the title-charging Lotus, are struggling to survive. "Our finances are open for everyone to see," Williams, referring to the Grove team's listing on the Frankfurt stock exchange, is quoted by Brazil's Totalrace. "We have a healthy budget and have done a good job on the business side to ensure that we are in a competitive […]

Pirelli wants another 1000km team tyre test

Paul Hembery has admitted he would like to organise another 1000 kilometre tyre test, although the last one with Mercedes' 2013 car was highly controversial. Indeed, F1's official supplier and the Brackley based team were officially reprimanded for the Barcelona session. But if the FIA's clarified guidelines are followed, Pirelli's contract with the sport actually permits tyre tests with individual teams, and motor sport boss Hembery admitted he is keen to organise another. Despite the controversy, and the fact Mercedes was penalised by having to […]

Interlagos moves to secure F1 future through 2020

Interlagos has moved a step closer to securing its future on the F1 calendar. Earlier this year, the future of the Brazilian grand prix came into doubt when F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone said the venue in Sao Paulo must be upgraded. But those fears eased when Ecclestone confirmed city mayor Fernando Haddad had written him a letter "and he's guaranteed to revamp the whole facilities there". It was said a new contract through 2020 would then be signed. Now, O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper is […]

Drivers threaten boycott if tyre problems persist

F1's tyre-gate saga has taken another dramatic twist, as drivers formally threaten to boycott the German grand prix. The Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GPDA), led by Ferrari tester Pedro de la Rosa, warned at the Nurburgring that drivers will pull out of the Nurburgring round if there are signs the tyre-exploding crisis seen at Silverstone has not been solved. "The drivers have decided if similar problems should manifest themselves during the German GP, we shall immediately withdraw from the event," read the statement. The GPDA […]

F1 paddock delighted with Honda's return

Honda's return to Formula One in 2015 is being warmly welcomed in the paddock. Amid poor results and the global financial crisis, the Japanese carmaker pulled out as a team at the end of 2008, but will return in 2015 as a works supplier of the new turbo V6 engine to McLaren. "I think it's very good for the team and for McLaren's future," said Jenson Button, "but I think it's also good for the sport. "It means we will have four engines in Formula […]

Perez: McLaren must not lose 2014 season too

McLaren must not 'lose' another whole season by bungling the development of its next car, new team driver Sergio Perez has warned. The young Mexican joined the Woking based team this year, just as it launched the uncompetitive MP4-28. Despite calls that it would be the most sensible solution, McLaren has so far refused to write off the current car in order to focus on the all-new rules of 2014. Asked how far McLaren is from winning a race in 2013, Perez answered: "I think […]

Nasr eyeing 2014 F1 debut

Felipe Nasr is likely to make his F1 debut in 2014, according to Livio Oricchio, the respected correspondent for O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper. The 20-year-old from Brazil is currently second in this year's GP2 championship, but in an interview with Oricchio he was cautious when talking about moving to F1. "Of course we're not far from it, and there will be a time to start thinking about Formula One, but at the moment my concern is to finish this season well," he said. "Because […]

Ecclestone tells Raikkonen to ditch Hunt tribute

Kimi Raikkonen has reportedly been told to remove the depiction of 1976 world champion James Hunt from the top of his Monaco-spec helmet. An unabashed fan of the wild, drinking, smoking, womanising British driver, Finn Raikkonen went one step further a year ago in the Principality, wearing the late Hunt's iconic black helmet livery. This year, the Lotus driver's tribute to Hunt is a stylish picture on the top of his helmet, bearing the words 'James Hunt, 1976 world champion'. And on the back of […]

Ferrari are the bad losers - Horner

Christian Horner has issued a feisty counter-punch, after Fernando Alonso suggested Red Bull were bad losers. Ferrari's Alonso had been asked in Monaco about Red Bull's consistent complaints about the 2013 Pirelli tyres. "When you win in an easy way for a few years, you can forget how to lose," the Spaniard had said. But Briton Horner, the Red Bull team boss, insisted Ferrari also has a few lessons to learn about how to lose. Asked if Red Bull are bad losers, Horner told Catalunya […]
