Bosses back F1 to survive Eurozone crisis

Team bosses are sure formula one will weather the European storm. Struggling Eurozone members headed by Greece have triggered a worsening financial crisis in the sport's key market. But Sir Frank Williams, who is understood to be negotiating with Middle Eastern sponsors, remains confident that formula one will still be able to rely on European money. "I believe it (sponsorship) will still come from Europe because the sport is based in Europe, most people who watch it are from Europe but I think (F1 figures […]

Sutil and Heidfeld hope for F1 seats in 2012

As Sebastian Vettel drinks in his unprecedented success, two of his German countrymen are hoping simply for a place on the 2012 grid. Adrian Sutil has been with Force India since the Silverstone based team's Spyker days, but speculation is mounting that Vijay Mallya is planning to pair Paul di Resta with Nico Hulkenberg next year. "I still have no contract (for 2012)," the German newsmagazine Focus quotes the 28-year-old as saying this week. "For sure we'll have a meeting soon," Sutil, referring to his […]

Vettel champion special: From the archive

Article originally written in June 2010. Think of what has changed since then... The 2007 Canadian Grand Prix was an extremely significant race. No, not for the reason that you’re thinking of, it has nothing to do with Lewis Hamilton’s first victory. Halfway through the race, Robert Kubica attempted an optimistic move on Jarno Trulli but nudged the rear of the Toyota at high speed and his front wing became lodged underneath his own car. TV cameras missed the initial incident but they caught the […]

Renault name change looming admits Boullier

Team boss Eric Boullier has confirmed that Renault plans to change its name for the 2012 season. With there currently being a team called Team Lotus competing against Group Lotus-sponsored Renault, the parties have been seeking a solution. It appears the plans are for Team Lotus to adopt the name of owner Tony Fernandes' carmaker Caterham for next season, with Renault becoming the sole Lotus. But name changes are not encouraged in F1, meaning that the proposal will need to be approved by the sport's […]

HRT to set up camp at Valencia harbour

HRT is set to select the port of Valencia as its new headquarters, according to the Spanish sports daily Marca. The report said HRT's new owner […]

HRT set for Renault engine switch?

Cosworth could be left with just a single formula one customer in 2012, according to the latest reports in the specialist media. New HRT consultant Luis Perez-Sala said last month that the Spanish team "will stay" with its current engine supplier next season because "we have a contract". But Italy's Autosprint, and the Spanish sports daily AS, are reporting that HRT has been in talks with Renault about a two-year engine supply contract beginning in 2012. Autosprint said the deal could also involve HRT using […]

Heidfeld: Leaving the last chance saloon

So ‘Quick Nick’ finds himself knocking on doors again after being unceremoniously dropped by Lotus Renault GP on the eve of the Belgian Grand Prix. Heidfeld has been given several ‘last chances’ over the course of his long career, as he holds various records: most grand prix starts without a win, most consecutive finishes (41) and the most finishes in a season (all 18 in 2008). Sadly none of these records are worth shouting about, but that is not to diminish Heidfeld’s pedigree by any […]
