The report said Lagardere has been disappointed by Marussia's performance so far in 2012, and is therefore shopping around for possible alternatives for 2013. Red Bull's Dr Helmut Marko is sure reigning back to back world champion Sebastian Vettel is still in the hunt for the 2012 title. No longer with the season's dominant package, the 25-year-old German is 42 points behind championship leader Fernando Alonso, and he even trails his own teammate Mark Webber by a couple of points. "The title is still entirely feasible for us," Austrian Marko, who is team boss Dietrich Mateschitz's right-hand man on motor racing matters, told Bild newspaper. "But Vettel needs to […]

The Belgian Grand Prix from a tyre point of view

Following the month-long summer break, Pirelli returns to action with the P Zero Silver hard tyre and P Zero White medium: a combination that has not been raced since the second grand prix of the season in Malaysia. The conditions at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit will be somewhat different however. The 7.004-kilometre lap is the longest of the entire year by some margin, and this is just one of the factors that can lead to extremely variable weather conditions, with a high risk of rain. […]

All eyes on Lotus for high speed double header

All eyes will be on Lotus' already-competitive black and gold E20 at high speed Spa and Monza. Technical boss James Allison confirmed recently the Enstone based team intended to debut its so-called 'double DRS' system in Belgium. Sky television pundit Ted Kravitz said the device, so far only tested in Friday practice sessions, works at any point of a circuit over 150mph. Historic Spa and Monza, the F1 double-header taking place over the next two weekends, are among the fastest circuits on the calendar. "They […]

Grosjean hoping upgrades pay off

Romain Grosjean is hoping that planned upgrades to the Lotus E20 will boost the team when F1 returns in Belgium next weekend. Grosjean sits eighth in the championship, level on points with Jenson Button. "It’s going to be good. I hope the upgrades to the car are going to make the difference. If we’d had the pace we  displayed at Budapest on a more normal track with better places to overtake we could have taken the win. Spa is a more regular circuit with good […]

Marussia looking forward to 50th race

Marussia drivers Timo Glock and Charles Pic are hoping for improvements as the season resumes in Belgium next weekend. Neither driver has scored a point and the team sits 11th in the championship. "Over the next nine races we will be working hard to optimise our current package, at the same time as doing some important work towards next year", said Timo Glock. "Those races will take place over just 14 weeks though, so with the long haul phase it will be non-stop action. To […]

The second part of the season kicks off in Spa Francorchamps next weekend, commencing a run of three races in four weeks. Hamilton won the Hungarian Grand Prix at the end of July. Schumacher gearing up for 300th event

Michael Schumacher is gearing up for his 300th Formula One event next weekend in Belgium. Somewhat fittingly, the seven times world champion made his debut in Spa in 1991 and followed this up with his maiden victory a year later. "Spa is like my living room; for me, it's clearly the number one race track in the world. It's uncanny how I always seem to have special moments there - my debut, my first win, a world championship victory and many great races. The fact that I […]

Sauber F1 Team: Tit for Tat - revenge by video

In anticipation of possible rain during the Grand Prix of Belgium in Spa, the Sauber F1 Team and Checo's race engineer Marco Schüpbach played a special prank on Checo as a comeback to Sergio's joke towards the end of the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix. After having started in 17th position, Sergio was in the points on 8th position when he sent a radio message to his race engineer in the final lap: "I have no more power, no power!" The despair on the pit stand […]
