Grosjean eager to blend speed with consistency

Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has said that he is out to prove that he can become a regular points scorer in Formula One. Grosjean claimed three podium finishes in 2012 but his season was marred by several first lap accidents. He was also banned for the Italian Grand Prix after causing a collision in Belgium. "I think everyone is waiting to see if I’m able to be consistent, which is where I was lacking a little bit last year," he said. "I know it and […]

Perez laments Q2 error

Sergio Perez was left frustrated after a communications error in the second part of qualifying. The Sauber driver failed to make it through to the third segment after following too closely to Bruno Senna. "We knew it would be tight to make it into the top ten today, but I was fighting hard. We have improved the car quite a lot since Friday, but we are clearly not as quick here as we were in Belgium", said the Mexican. "On my last attempt in Q2 […]

Solid Saturday at Mercedes

After failing to make Q3 for the last race in Belgium, Mercedes duo Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg expressed satisfaction at qualifying in the top six for the Italian Grand Prix. Due to Paul di Resta's penalty, Schumacher starts alongside Felipe Massa on the front row, with team mate Rosberg a row behind. "I think we can be satisfied with our qualifying performance as we have performed consistently all weekend", said Schumacher.  "Our car clearly suits this circuit more than at the last races, but […]

Alonso on back foot as another problem strikes

Recently the runaway championship leader, Fernando Alonso is now firmly on the back foot after yet another problem at Monza. Before the now-banned Romain Grosjean destroyed his race at Spa, Spaniard Alonso's lead in the drivers' championship was a substantial 40 points. That crash makes it 24 now, and then the glitches started rolling in front of Ferrari's famous Tifosi on Friday. In Monza practice, Alonso had gearbox, brake and gearbox problems, and then all was going well in qualifying as he and teammate Felipe […]

One pit stop possible at high-speed race of the year

In contrast to the wet conditions that characterised Friday free practice at the last grand prix in Belgium, there were ambient temperatures of 28 degrees centigrade and track temperatures of 40 degrees centigrade as the cars took to the track for the first time in Monza. This worked the P Zero Silver hard and P Zero White medium tyres particularly hard on the fastest circuit of the year, where the maximum speed reached was 347kph last year. The stable conditions allowed all the drivers to […]

Schumacher laments aquaplaning

Michael Schumacher was one of the first drivers to venture out onto the track during second practice, but even he was thwarted by the amount of rain falling at the Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium this afternoon. "Unfortunately the weather today did not allow us to do much more than just basic work as there was too much rain coming down in both sessions", said Schumacher. "There was a lot of aquaplaning, even when just cautiously cruising around the circuit which sometimes you did not […]

Alonso's engineer says Raikkonen can win title

Andrea Stella, Fernando Alonso's race engineer at Ferrari, has singled out Kimi Raikkonen as a challenger for the 2012 championship. The buzz in the sodden Spa paddock is that four-time Belgian grand prix winner Raikkonen is a true contender for Sunday's victory at the wheel of a Lotus. And the Finn, who in 2007 won the title for Ferrari, is still within shouting distance in the drivers' standings, just a point shy of Lewis Hamilton's fourth place. "Of course Kimi can challenge Fernando in the […]

Lotus could end victory drought in Belgium

The buzzword in the Spa paddock is 'Lotus'. Already a standout performer of the 2012 season, the black and gold E20 is long overdue for a victory. Belgium could be just the place. Only Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher have won more times in the Ardennes than Kimi Raikkonen (4). And, for the first time in 2012, he and teammate Romain Grosjean are tipped to race the Enstone based team's new 'double DRS' innovation, which on Spa's long straights could provide a big advantage. "On […]
