Maldonado sure of top 10 challenge despite 'unlucky' crash

Pastor Maldonado says he is confident of fighting for the top 10 at the Belgian Grand Prix, despite crashing out of second practice during the opening stages. Maldonado lost control of his Lotus E22 exiting Turn 9 and sustained heavy damage to the Lotus E22, truncating his session early on. Maldonado was taken to the medical centre but was quickly released without any issues. "I went for a quick check-up, they said I was okay and I went straight to the garage," he said. "For […]

Hamilton moves ahead in second practice

Lewis Hamilton set the fastest time during the second practice session for this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix at Spa Francorchamps. Hamilton’s time of 1:49.189, set on the Option tyres, was over six-tenths of a second quicker than Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg. Rosberg, who topped the first session on Friday morning, ran slightly wide at Malmedy on his fastest lap, although the error was not sufficient to explain Rosberg's deficit. Fernando Alonso assumed his position as the fastest non-Mercedes driver once again as the Spaniard was […]

Rosberg edges Hamilton in first Spa session

Nico Rosberg set the fastest time during the first practice session at a cool, but sunny Spa-Francorchamps as Formula 1 returned from its summer break. Rosberg topped the times early on in the session, before team-mate Lewis Hamilton lowered the benchmark by 0.050s. Rosberg responded by setting a time of 1:51.577, 0.097s, while Hamilton wrecked another potential hot lap when he went off the circuit at Pouhon. He repeated the error a lap later and also went wide at Les Combes during the session. Drivers […]

Max Chilton is expecting the issue surrounding his contract to be resolved before the Italian Grand Prix next month, after it was announced that the Brit would be replaced by reserve driver Alexander Rossi for this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix. Marussia announced on Thursday afternoon that Rossi will make his Formula 1 debut in place of Chilton this weekend due to 'contractual issues' with their regular driver. Chilton released a statement through his management company following the news that confirmed his decision to step aside […]

Alonso anticipating season-long Williams scrap

Fernando Alonso is expecting Ferrari's battle in the championship with rivals Williams to last until the end of the 2014 season. Alonso's Ferrari team is currently in third place in the Constructors' championship, albeit just seven points ahead of Williams. The Spaniard is anticipating Williams to hold the upper hand across the next two race weekends, at Spa and Monza, with their FW36 expected to suit the characteristics of both circuits. "The target obviously is to help the team and fight for third in the […]

Rossi replaces Chilton for Belgian GP

Alexander Rossi will make his Formula 1 debut for Marussia this weekend after replacing Max Chilton at the team. Rossi joined Marussia as reserve driver at the Hungarian Grand Prix but he will step up to a race seat while Marussia resolves 'contractual issues' with Chilton. "It’s […]

Sutil: Points the main target

Adrian Sutil says scoring points has to be Sauber's target as they bid to end a fruitless run of races, starting at the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend. Sutil and Sauber have endured a miserable season, with the squad having failed to register a solitary championship point across the opening 11 rounds of the season. While Sutil admitted that the team could face a challenging weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, he was nonetheless optimistic over the Swiss outfit's progress over recent races. "This [points] is the main […]

Formula 1 debutant Andre Lotterer has played down expectations as he prepares for the Belgian Grand Prix weekend with Caterham. Perez plans Spa podium assault

Sergio Perez believes that the next two races will present Force India with their best chance of claiming another podium finish. Perez claimed a top three result at the Bahrain Grand Prix earlier in the season and reckons the characteristics of the next two circuits - Spa-Francorchamps and Monza - should play into the hands of Force India. Force India is currently in fifth place in the Constructors' championship, although they hold a slender one point advantage over McLaren. "Our goal is to maximise every […]

Ericsson hopeful of step forward

Caterham driver Marcus Ericsson says the squad is targeting a step forward at this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix as the team prepares to fit a large upgrade package to the CT05. Wolff: Reliability Mercedes's key focus

Head of Mercedes Motorsport Toto Wolff believes that improving reliability must be the squad's main focus as the Formula 1 season re-commences in Belgium this weekend. Mercedes has a comfortable lead in the Constructors' championship but has endured reliability problems across the past three events; Nico Rosberg was forced to retire at Silverstone, while failures rendered Lewis Hamilton to the back of the grid at Hockenheim and the Hungaroring. "Looking ahead to Spa, and also reflecting on our recent performances, it is clear that reliability […]
