Nasr anticipating gain of four tenths

Felipe Nasr is expecting engine gains from Ferrari to boost Sauber by almost half a second per lap at the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend. Sauber started 2015 brightly but faded across the remainder of the first half of the season, as it was out-developed by more well resourced rivals. The squad will receive the engine upgrades from Ferrari which was first used by the manufacturer squad in Canada and Nasr is sure that Sauber will benefit from the tweaks. "Here, I'm expecting [the updates] […]

Wolff urges Mercedes to stay focused

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff says that the squad must stay focused in order to ensure that it is not eclipsed by rivals across the remainder of the 2015 campaign. Mercedes holds a comfortable lead in the Constructors' championship but was unable to take victory in Hungary after being usurped at the start by Ferrari, the second time this year that Mercedes has missed out on top spot. Formula 1 reconvenes in Belgium this weekend, where last year Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg collided on the […]

Alonso: Spa and Monza will mask McLaren progress

Fernando Alonso believes that the circuit layout at Spa Francorchamps and Monza will mask the progress made by McLaren. McLaren has endured a troublesome start to its reunion with Honda in 2015, amassing 17 points across the first 10 races, 12 of them coming at the most recent race in Hungary. While sure that McLaren has made progress, Alonso reckons that the characteristics of the next two circuits will not play to the strengths of the Honda-powered MP4-30. "The next few races will be important […]

Nico Rosberg has vowed that he will grab any opportunities which come his way in the title fight, ahead of the resumption of the Formula 1 season in Belgium this weekend. Rosberg trails Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton by 21 points in the standings but missed a chance to close the gap in Hungary. Raikkonen targets more clean weekends

Kimi Raikkonen says he simply needs clean weekends in order to extract the maximum from the Ferrari F14T after collecting his best result of the season at last weekend's Belgian Grand Prix. Raikkonen finished in fourth place at Spa Francorchamps to move up to 10th in the championship, after a weekend in which Raikkonen enjoyed a relatively smooth time. Raikkonen does not consider his result in Belgium a breakthrough result - citing three previous events at which his weekend was compromised by situations outside of […]

Ferrari vows to improve procedures

Ferrari team principal Marco Mattiacci has promised that the squad will improve its procedures after Fernando Alonso copped a time penalty due to a grid infringement. A problem with the battery on Alonso's car meant that his mechanics were still working on the F14T after the 15 second signal to clear the grid was given. As a result, Alonso was hit with a five second stop/go penalty, which dropped him down the order and left him in seventh position at the end of the race. […]

Button sympathises with Hamilton's plight

McLaren's Jenson Button says he sympathises with the misfortune that former team-mate Lewis Hamilton has had to endure in the 2014 season. Button, who raced alongside Hamilton between 2010 and 2012, finished sixth in a Belgian Grand Prix in which Hamilton retired after being hit early on by Nico Rosberg. Hamilton has won five races in 2014 but has also suffered from mechanical problems, having to retire in Australia and Canada, before starting at the back of the grid in Germany and Hungary due to […]

It was bound to happen. It just had to. They came close in Bahrain. They battled again in Spain. Monaco was tense. Canada was mightily close. Hungary was controversial. But in Belgium they did the unthinkable. The two dominant cars touched. Nico Rosberg hit Lewis Hamilton. The latter's race was ruined. The former went on to claim second. Mercedes lost a 1-2. Senior management could not contain their anger, while Hamilton's revelation post-debrief gave the title battle a new meaning. What has been simmering for […]

Belgian GP: Driver Ratings

We rate the drivers for their performance at a scintillating, and controversial, Belgian Grand Prix at Spa Francorchamps 1 | Sebastian Vettel | Red Bull-Renault | Q: 3rd | R: 5th | 7/10 Vettel’s underwhelming title defence took another turn for the worse in practice when a burnt exhaust led to him sitting out the second session as a precaution. Nonetheless, he excelled in wet conditions to line up a fine third on the grid. He challenged Hamilton for the lead of the race at […]

Ricciardo eyes title challenge

Daniel Ricciardo says that he will keep fighting for the title until it is mathematically impossible as he claimed his third victory of the year at the Belgian Grand Prix. Ricciardo took advantage of a collision between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg to notch up the maximum 25 points, and move to within 64 of Rosberg. "If I'm within 50 coming into Abu Dhabi then yeah, but there's still a few races to go," he said when asked whether he considers himself a title contender. […]

Alonso: Podium chance wasted by start issue

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso says his chance of finishing on the podium at the Belgian Grand Prix was ended when he suffered a technical issue prior to the formation lap. Alonso was left on the jacks as the formation lap got underway and while he was able to assume his fourth place grid slot, he was handed a five second time penalty which dropped him down the order. "Today my race started on the back foot as the car did not fire up and we […]

Hamilton: Rosberg admits he didn't back off

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has said that team-mate Nico Rosberg admitted that he allowed their collision during the Belgian Grand Prix to happen to 'prove a point.' Hamilton was hit by Rosberg at Les Combes and after the Mercedes post-race debrief, Hamilton revealed that Rosberg claimed he intentionally did not back off as they scrapped for the lead on the second lap of the race. "It looked quite clear to me but we just had a meeting about it and he basically said he did […]
