Vettel hits out after tyre failure

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel has hit out at Pirelli after he suffered a tyre failure during the penultimate lap of the Belgian Grand Prix. Vettel was running a one stop strategy and occupied third position when his tyre failed at Kemmel, dropping the German out of the points. "Well how many laps was I missing? Not many," Vettel explained to BBC Sport in the immediate aftermath of the race, when asked if a one stop strategy was too audacious. "Things like that are not allowed to […]

Rosberg rues 'messed up' start

Nico Rosberg was left to rue a poor start as he finished second to Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton at the Belgian Grand Prix. Rosberg started from the front row of the grid but slipped to fifth on the first lap, and spent the first stint behind Sergio Perez and Daniel Ricciardo, having passed Valtteri Bottas at the Bus Stop chicane. Perez and Ricciardo pitted to enable Rosberg to move into second, from where he remained for the rest of the race as Hamilton cruised to […]

Hamilton says he had pace in hand

Lewis Hamilton says he had pace in hand as he had no real reason to push during certain stages of the Belgian Grand Prix. Hamilton retained the lead from pole position and cruised away from his rivals, as Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg worked his way into second place after a slow start. Rosberg remained within a few seconds of Hamilton for much of the race but the Briton said he was simply controlling the pace at the head of the pack. "For me it was […]

Raikkonen to start from 16th after penalty

Kimi Raikkonen will start from 16th position at the Belgian Grand Prix after Ferrari fitted a new gearbox to his SF15-T overnight. Raikkonen stopped on track during Q2 and was provisionally set to start the race from 14th on the grid. However, a five place grid penalty will be applied, meaning that he drops down the order. The impact of Raikkonen's sanction is limited and he will only drop behind Felipe Nasr and Will Stevens. This is because the FIA imposes an infinite number of […]

Perez qualified in fifth position at Spa Francorchamps but will be elevated to fourth on the grid following a penalty for Romain Grosjean. Vettel not panicking over eighth place

Sebastian Vettel says that an error at the Bus Stop chicane cost him a likely third place during qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix. Vettel will line up from only eighth on the grid, albeit having set a time only three-tenths of a second down on third-placed Valtteri Bottas. "It’s very simple: in Q2 we were third and it was very tight if you look at the lap times," he said. "In Q3 I was having the same pace, unfortunately I was not able to […]

Button: Q1 lap like a pole position

Jenson Button compared the lap which left him eliminated in Q1 to the one which he set for pole position at the Belgian Grand Prix in 2012. Heavily compromised due to the characteristics of the Spa Francorchamps circuit, Button was able to set only the 17th fastest time in qualifying and will drop two places further back due to engine penalties. "I felt my lap today was equal to the pole position lap I did here three years ago – I really enjoyed driving the […]

Rosberg concedes Hamilton out of reach

Nico Rosberg conceded that Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton was out of reach as the Briton cruised to his 10th pole position of the year in Belgium. Rosberg, who claimed pole at Spa Francorchamps last season, made an error on his first run at Stavelot and was unable to bridge the gap to Hamilton on his second lap, ultimately finishing 0.458s down on his team-mate. "For sure [I'm] disappointed, I lost it in the final practice session and we went the wrong way, came back and […]
