Bird hangs on to secure victory

Sam Bird secured the first GP2 victory for Russian Time after a thrilling finale to the Sprint race in Bahrain. Bird took the lead from pole sitter and team-mate Tom Dillmann early on and established a comfortable lead over Stefano Coletti, who also quickly usurped Dillmann. Hamilton predicts tough weekend for Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton says the balance of the car was holding him back during practice for the Bahrain Grand Prix. Hamilton was only tenth quickest in second practice. "We worked as hard as we could today but couldn't quite get the balance of the car to where it needs to be," he said. Lotus's Kimi Raikkonen says second was the best result possible following contact with Sergio Perez. Raikkonen started from second on the grid but slipped back to fourth at the first corner. Marussia rookies Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton expressed their happiness after they both finished the Australian Grand Prix. Bianchi completed the race in fifteenth place while Chilton came across the line in seventeenth.
