Hamilton cruises to 50th F1 victory

Lewis Hamilton kept his slim title hopes alive as he ended a five-race drought with victory in the US Grand Prix, with team-mate and championship leader Nico Rosberg finishing second. Hamilton held off Rosberg and Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo on the ascent to Turn 1, and his feathers were unruffled thereafter, eventually coming home 4.5 seconds clear of his title rival as he coasted to the chequered flag. The win was Hamilton's fifth on US soil, and fourth in Austin, equalling Michael Schumacher's record, though […]

Hamilton beats Rosberg to Austin pole

Lewis Hamilton got the better of Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg to take a morale-boosting pole position for the United States Grand Prix in Texas. Hamilton clocked a 1:34.999 on his final run in Q3 to out-pace championship leader Rosberg by two tenths of a second, but the Englishman knows a good start is essential if he is to kick-start a monumental fightback in the remaining races. Red Bull were unable to challenge Mercedes despite their encouraging practice pace, with Daniel Ricciardo six tenths adrift of […]

Vettel: Ferrari was on ‘back foot’

Sebastian Vettel is not happy with how the first two practice sessions at the Circuit of the Americas went for him after a damaged wing cost him track time in FP1 and performance in FP2. The German is confident the pace will be better on Saturday as Ferrari couldn’t show its full potential on Friday. A trip over the kerbs during the first session damaged some front end aero components and the right rearview mirror on his SF16-H which required repairs before he was able […]

Poor debut for Haas on home soil

Haas did not enjoy a positive debut on home soil after experiencing a series of issues on Friday with the main one being the rear brake drum’s winglets falling off the car. The team says the loads are very high in Austin and this might have caused the problems, but hopes to fix it before heading into the last practice session. Romain Grosjean’s best time in FP1 was a lap of 1:40.826 which put him 14th overall, while Esteban Gutiérrez slotted just behind his team mate. […]

How Mercedes avoided Red Bull's trap

The US Grand Prix was not one of the most exciting races of the season, but the strategic side was very interesting, with Red Bull continuing to probe Mercedes in a chess game; they might have split the two Silver Arrows had they had more luck with a Virtual Safety Car, triggered by one of their drivers to the detriment of the other. Meanwhile further back some important results were achieved for Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz by a combination of brilliant driving and decision-making. […]

Renault 'a little nervous' over US reliability

Renault says that the high-speed characteristics of the Circuit of the Americas - the venue for this weekend's United States Grand Prix - raises reliability concerns due to the strain it puts on the Power Units. Several drivers powered by Renault are on the cusp of using a sixth Power Unit component this weekend, which would result in them receiving a 10 place grid penalty. Reigning world champion and 2013 race winner Sebastian Vettel is set to use a sixth engine, meaning that he could […]

Lotus admits Raikkonen still owed money

Kimi Raikkonen has still not received all of the money he is owed by Lotus. Towards the end of the season, and just before he set off for back surgery that meant he missed the last two races of 2013, the Finn revealed he has not been paid "one euro" by the Enstone based team this year. Raikkonen said he almost called a halt to his Lotus career before the race in Abu Dhabi, saying at the time: "I came here only because hopefully we […]
