Grosjean targeting improvement at favourite circuit

Lotus's Romain Grosjean is hoping for a better performance as he heads to his favourite circuit for this weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix. Grosjean qualified eighth in Australia but slipped back to tenth in the race. "Sepang is probably my favourite track of the whole season," he said. "I first raced there in 2008 as part of the GP2 Asia Series and I really loved the circuit. It’s nice and wide, with fast flowing corners and a lot of undulation which makes it great fun to […]

Mallya wants Silverstone podium

Q&A conducted by the Official F1 Website Q: Vijay, both Force India drivers finished in the points in Valencia. Why did the team prove so successful last weekend? Vijay Mallya: Well, the car was performing great all weekend long. In fact I was hoping for a better qualifying result, but in Q3 maybe both overdrove the car, locked up the wheels etc. So we started eighth and tenth while I was actually hoping to start in the top five. We knew that this season’s unpredictability has […]

Singapore eyes new race deal and F1 floatation

The fact F1 has chosen the Singapore exchange for the sport's high profile floatation does not mean the city-state's popular floodlit street race is guaranteed. The night event's existing five year contract runs out this year, although a two-year notice clause in the deal means Singapore should stay on the calendar at least until 2014. On the face of it, a new deal seemed a certainty, given it was Bernie Ecclestone himself who chose Singapore as the location for F1's forthcoming floatation. "Formula One is […]

Raikkonen gifts ice-cream to press corps

'Iceman' Kimi Raikkonen on Sunday proved he is not without a sense of humour. The last time he was at Sepang, in 2009, the Ferrari driver caused raucous laughter in the F1 media centre when the global television feed showed him enjoying a chocolate ice-cream and can of coke. The rest of the field was damply awaiting the race's re-start on the sodden grid. There were similar conditions looming in Malaysia on Sunday, and so the Lotus team delivered a present from Raikkonen to each […]

Ecclestone eyes Asia floatation for F1 rights

Bernie Ecclestone has revealed that public floatation might be more likely than a sale in the event current owners CVC want to offload formula one's commercial rights. A consortium headed by News Corp has expressed interest in bidding for the lucrative rights, as have the F1 teams in becoming shareholders. But chief executive Ecclestone told the Telegraph: "If I wanted to dispose of the company today I would float it in Singapore or Hong Kong." He added that "it would be better to float the […]

Todt: F1 must accept move to new markets

Jean Todt says he supports formula one's push out of Europe into new markets. The FIA president was speaking at India's new Buddh circuit, amid some observers' fears that the sport is steadily walking away from its traditional hosts and venues. "Slowly (F1) is moving from Europe to other developing countries in Asia and the Middle East. "India is a strong emerging country and I admire the investments made for building the infrastructure and the resilience shown by the people," said Todt. It has also […]

De la Rosa: F1 must accept move away from Europe

Formula One needs to accept the steady move away from its traditional European homeland. That is the claim of Spanish test driver Pedro de la Rosa, whose employer McLaren is based in the UK close to seven other formula one teams. The other four teams are based elsewhere in Europe but, next year for example, no fewer than 12 of the 20 scheduled races will take place on other continents. De la Rosa wrote in his latest formulasantander.com column that F1 is moving with the […]
