Magnussen sets pace on day three at Jerez

Kevin Magnussen set the fastest time for McLaren on the third day of action at Jerez. The Dane's time of 1:23.276, set late in the day, was enough to pip Williams's Felipe Massa. Magnussen only ran during the afternoon but completed 51 laps, to add to the 40 managed by team-mate Jenson Button during the morning session. Fernando Alonso has taken a magnificent home victory in what turned out to be a chaotic European Grand Prix, after Sebastian Vettel suffered a rare mechanical issue on his Red Bull. McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton won a tense and tactical Canadian Grand Prix, making it seven winners from seven races in 2012. Hamilton took an unshakeable grip on this race after the first round of pitstops.
