Opinion: How Red Bull can gain an early 2014 advantage

As the Sebastian Vettel/Red Bull juggernaut marches on towards a fourth successive title, much of the attention now switches to 2014. The sport will enter a new era consisting of modified regulations, the most significant being the 1.6 litre V6 power units. Teams will be eager to stretch out the miniscule of advantages over their rivals as if you get it right early on, it will make 2014, 2015 and even 2016 far more simpler to manage. Red Bull got it right at the start […]

Formula 1 teams set for loose wheel grid drops

Formula 1 teams are set to be handed 10 place grid penalties if a car is allowed to leave a pit garage with a loose wheel. The rule will be applied during all Formula 1 sessions. If a team releases a car with an insecurely attached wheel during practice or qualifying, the 10 place grid drop will be applied to the driver for that weekend's race. Should the team err during the race, the grid drop will be carried over to the following event. The […]

Tyre change 'like widening football goals' says Boullier

Eric Boullier has revealed Lotus is "a little disappointed" with Pirelli's decision to change its 2013 tyres mid-season. Amid the media furore and the complaining of prominent teams like Red Bull and Mercedes, F1's official supplier announced that it will revert to elements of last year's tyre design for the Canadian grand prix next month and beyond. But Lotus boss Boullier stressed that only "some teams" actually welcome the changes "because it can help their performance". Indeed, teams including Lotus and Barcelona winner Ferrari were […]

Alguersuari, Schumacher to race karts

Unable to find a race seat for his F1 return, Jaime Alguersuari has signed up for a season of kart racing. Spain's El Confidencial reports that the former Toro Rosso driver will combine his continuing role as Pirelli test driver with a seat in the powerful KZ kart category of the European championship. Jaime Alguersuari has expressed his dismay with the way he has been treated over the last couple of years. He has revealed that throughout his absence from the sport, he had been promised a 2013 seat by a team capable of scoring points. Sutil emerges as leading Force India candidate

German driver Adrian Sutil has re-emerged as a leading candidate for Force India's vacant seat. Sutil drove for the Silverstone based team between 2007 and 2011 but was dropped in favour of Nico Hulkenberg in 2012. Sutil was found guilt of grievous bodily harm after assaulting one of Lotus's executives, Eric Lux, in a Shanghai nightclub in April 2011. Sutil did not race in F1 last year. "Adrian Sutil had a seat fitting with the team this week," a Force India spokesperson confirmed. "At this […]
