Williams signs Sutil as reserve driver

Williams has confirmed that former Force India and Sauber pilot Adrian Sutil will act as the squad's reserve driver this season. Sutil made his Formula 1 debut with Spyker in 2007 and remained with the Silverstone-based squad until he switched to Sauber for 2014, where he was unable to score a point. Sutil joins test driver Susie Wolff and development driver Alex Lynn as back-up to Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas. "I’m very proud to be a part of such a famous and great Formula […]

Sutil linked with Nissan seat for Le Mans

Adrian Sutil could keep his top motor racing career alive in 2015 with a Le Mans seat. Late last year, the German veteran hinted he might take legal action against Sauber, as despite his 2015 contract the Swiss team signed pay-drivers Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson for this season. It was then a very quiet winter season for the 32-year-old. He has been linked with the new American outfit Haas, but that is not set to debut until 2016. A report by veteran correspondent Roger […]

Sauber again miss out on points

Sauber once again missed out on their first points of the season in the Brazilian Grand Prix, leading to the possibility that the squad will finish without a solitary point for the first time in their Formula 1 history. Esteban Gutierrez ran inside the top 10 during the first stint of the race but slipped back after being beset by tyre wear, while team-mate Adrian Sutil was thwarted by a cooling problem, which meant he had to start the race from the pit lane. "We […]

Sutil wants talks after Nasr-Ericsson line-up confirmed

Adrian Sutil says he wants to talk with Sauber after the Swiss team confirmed that he would not be racing for the squad in 2015. Sauber confirmed last weekend that Marcus Ericsson would join them next year and revealed on Wednesday that GP2 driver Felipe Nasr will race alongside Ericsson. Sutil, who said earlier this year that he has a 2015 deal with Sauber, insists that the situation at the moment needs resolving. "There are certain things to talk about definitely," he commented ahead of […]

Sutil hits out at 'needless' Perez move

Adrian Sutil criticised rival Sergio Perez after crashing out of the United States Grand Prix for the second successive season. Sutil started from ninth place and maintained his position across the opening lap until he was hit by Force India rival Perez. Both cars were eliminated in the collision, with Sauber losing its best opportunity of scoring a first point of 2014. "I had a good start and was in a promising position," he said. "Sadly Sergio crashed into my car, which was completely needless. […]

Sutil: 18 car grid 'not enough'

Sauber driver Adrian Sutil says that the demise of Caterham and Marussia was 'obvious' and that an 18-car grid for this weekend's United States Grand Prix is 'not enough'. Sutil's Sauber team has endured a troublesome campaign and has yet to score a point, leaving it 10th in the Constructors' Championship, behind the absent Marussia. The German driver feels that the absence of teams from the grid was ultimately inevitable. "It’s not nice to see two teams missing here, but it was very obvious that […]

Downbeat Sutil fears another Sauber struggle

Adrian Sutil reckons Sauber is set for another difficult weekend in Japan after Friday's practice sessions at Suzuka. Sutil, who has not yet scored a point this season, was 17th fastest in the second session and had his run disrupted by a Power Unit problem. "In first practice we had problems finding a good balance for the car," he said. "The hard tyres didn’t work as we had hoped. There was very little grip, which makes it difficult to set a decent lap time. For […]

'Impossible' to achieve good results, says Gutierrez

A frustrated Esteban Gutierrez says it is 'almost impossible' for Sauber to achieve good results as the team endured another dismal day in the Singapore Grand Prix. Gutierrez ran strongly early on but had to retire due to an electrical problem, while a water leak led to team-mate Adrian Sutil failing to last the distance. "There is not much to say about the race," said Gutierrez. "At the moment it is almost impossible to achieve good results. We have to extract 120 percent from what […]

Lack of power hinders Sutil

Sauber driver Adrian Sutil was left frustrated after a Power Unit issue rendered him unable to progress through the first knockout segment during qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix. Sutil, who has yet to score a point in 2014, was 17th quickest in the session and consequently found himself eliminated from proceedings. "It is a pity that qualifying was not as good as we expected," he said. "But on the other hand, we have had issues with the power unit and the energy management since […]

Sauber confident of 'best chance' in Singapore

Sauber believes that next weekend's Singapore Grand Prix presents the squad with its best chance of scoring points in 2014. Sauber has endured a troubled campaign in 2014, with neither Esteban Gutierrez nor Adrian Sutil having made it into the top 10 across the opening 13 races. But the outfit is optimistic that the Marina Bay circuit will suit the C33, which will feature an aerodynamic update package, a new engine cover and a modified front wing. "In terms of track layout, I think the […]

Sutil: Points the main target

Adrian Sutil says scoring points has to be Sauber's target as they bid to end a fruitless run of races, starting at the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend. Sutil and Sauber have endured a miserable season, with the squad having failed to register a solitary championship point across the opening 11 rounds of the season. While Sutil admitted that the team could face a challenging weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, he was nonetheless optimistic over the Swiss outfit's progress over recent races. "This [points] is the main […]

Sauber encouraged despite missing points

Sauber's pairing of Adrian Sutil and Esteban Gutierrez say they are encouraged by the team's performance at the Hungarian Grand Prix despite coming agonisingly close to their first points of 2014. Sutil finished in 11th place, less than a second behind McLaren's Jenson Button, while Gutierrez ran inside the top 10 before a mechanical problem halted his C33. "Finishing in P11 was very close to gaining one point," said Sutil. "It was not an easy race, especially at the beginning with the difficult weather conditions […]
